DI<strong>REC</strong>TORS’ PROFILE<br />
DR. JAIRAJ MORESHWAR PHATAK Chairman & Managing Director<br />
Dr. Jairaj Moreshwar Phatak, 55 years, is Chairman and Managing Director of <strong>REC</strong> since 15th June,<br />
2010. Prior to joining <strong>REC</strong>, he was working as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Panchayati<br />
Raj, Government of India.<br />
Dr. Phatak is an IAS officer of 1978 batch from Maharashtra cadre with 32 years service. He holds<br />
a Doctorate in Management from University of Mumbai, a Masters in Public Administration from<br />
John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and an M.Sc. degree from the<br />
Department of Physics, IIT Bombay (1975). He was Edward Mason Fellow in Harvard University<br />
and has been recipient of K.K.Birla Fellowship in Economics.<br />
He has an extensive experience in city governance as the Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai<br />
(BMC) from 2007-09 in addition to his earlier assignments at Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal <strong>Corporation</strong> (Pune’s suburbs)<br />
and Navi Mumbai Municipal <strong>Corporation</strong>. Dr. Phatak has served as the Principal Secretary in Urban Development,<br />
Maharashtra Government. He has also been Secretary of <strong>Rural</strong> Development, School Education and Food & Civil Supply<br />
Departments in Maharashtra. His tenure as Secretary, School education was lauded for his efforts to improve education.<br />
He has also worked in Government of India for five years - four years in Department of Personnel & Training and seven<br />
months in Ministry of Panchayati Raj. He is also a Visiting Professor to the All India Institute of Local Self-government,<br />
Mumbai.<br />
Dr. Phatak was a member of the IIT Bombay Chess Team that won the All India Inter-University Chess Tournament in 1974.<br />
He has also been President of Maharashtra Chess Association.<br />
Dr. Jairaj Moreshwar Phatak was holding Nil equity shares in the Company at the time of joining on 15th June, 2010.<br />
SHRI HARI DAS KHUNTETA Director (Finance)<br />
Shri Hari Das Khunteta, 58 years, is Director (Finance) since May, 2004. He holds a Bachelor’s<br />
Degree in Commerce from the University of Rajasthan. He is also a Associate Member of the Institute<br />
of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Shri Khunteta has 33 years of professional experience in<br />
the area of financial management including resource mobilization from domestic and international<br />
markets, investor servicing and corporate governance. Prior to his appointment as Director (Finance),<br />
he held the position of Executive Director (Finance and Accounts) in National Hydroelectric Power<br />
<strong>Corporation</strong> Limited (NHPC), He was also Non Executive Director on the Board of the Narmada<br />
Hydroelectric Development <strong>Corporation</strong>, a joint venture of NHPC and Government of Madhya<br />
Pradesh.<br />
He is responsible for formulating financial strategies and plans to enable the company in achieving its vision. He provides<br />
directions with respect to Financial Management and Operations of the organization encompassing organizational and<br />
financial planning, formulation of financial policy, financial accounting, management control systems, cash and funds<br />
management, tax planning, mobilization and management of resources, liaison with financial institutions and capital<br />
market players. He also supervises treasury functions, lending operations and advises on corporate risk management matters.<br />
Shri Hari Das Khunteta was holding 14000 equity shares in the Company as on 31st March 2010.<br />
SHRI GULJIT KAPUR Director (Technical)<br />
Shri Guljit Kapur, 59 years, is Director (Technical) since December 1, 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s<br />
Degree in Electrical Engineering in first division from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh. He<br />
is in charge of all technical and operational aspects of various projects in the generation, transmission<br />
and distribution sectors as well as rural electrification projects under the RGGVY scheme. Shri<br />
Kapur has over 39 years of experience in various Power Sector utilities namely BBMB, PSEB,<br />
POWERGRID, NHPC, THDC and <strong>REC</strong>. Prior to his taking over as Director (Technical) of the Company,<br />
he was working as General Manager (Transmission & Distribution) of the Company. He Joined the<br />
Company on Deputation on September 14, 2005 and he was permanently absorbed in the Company<br />
on September 15, 2007. Before joining the Company, he was working as Deputy General Manager in Power Grid <strong>Corporation</strong><br />
of India Limited (PGCIL).<br />
Shri Guljit Kapur was holding Nil equity shares in the Company as on 31st March 2010.<br />
