Emerging leaf rolled<br />
Ligule a rim of 1–2 mm long hairs<br />
Auricles absent<br />
Lower leaf sheath hairy when young,<br />
usually strongly red in colour<br />
Leaves of young plants with hairs on<br />
underside and a few long hairs near the<br />
base, hairless with shiny underside on<br />
older plants<br />
