National Programme <strong>of</strong> Crop <strong>Plant</strong> <strong>Genetic</strong> Resources <strong>Conservation</strong><br />
Collecting and conservation <strong>of</strong> plant genetic resources were established in Poland by Pr<strong>of</strong>.<br />
Kaznowski in the Research Institute <strong>of</strong> Agronomy (PINGW) at Pu_awy in 1922 and Agricultural<br />
Academy at Dublany. Since calling the <strong>Plant</strong> Breeding and Acclimatization Institute into being<br />
(1951), collections <strong>of</strong> crops at particular consideration <strong>of</strong> the Polish local cultivars and ecotypes<br />
were collected. The national programme <strong>of</strong> conservation <strong>of</strong> crop plant genetic resources<br />
established in 1979 constitute continuation <strong>of</strong> earlier investigations concerning this matter. The<br />
main goal <strong>of</strong> this undertaking is to preserve genetic material <strong>of</strong> major crop plants and their wild<br />
and weed relatives for breeding and research.The objectives <strong>of</strong> the programme are realized by:
