Texas Sentinels Foundation raises over $80,000
for wounded warriors in sporting clays tournament
The Apache Operation Lock-N-Load Sporting Clays tournament
at Rio Brazos Hunting Preserve in Simonton, Texas raised
over $80,000 for the Texas Sentinels Foundation over the weekend.
The hunting community, oilfield companies, local businesses,
and American patriots from all walks of society convened
for an exhilarating day of competitive marksmanship and
a tribute to our men and women of the U.S. Military.
The Texas Sentinels Foundation, which provides
debt-free housing and other support services to post-9/11
wounded warriors, elected to host the fundraiser to coincide
with Armed Forces Day (May 19, 2012).
Over 400 shooters participated in the competitive tournament.
Texas Sentinels Foundation sponsored more than 60
wounded warriors and active duty service members.
Guests enjoyed beautiful weather, great food, and day-long
activities which included an exciting performance by renowned
Beretta exhibition shooter Travis Mears. Dozens of tournament-quality
and exotic firearms were awarded to attendees
through fundraising raffles.
During mid-afternoon, the crowd was treated to an aerial
assault by three WW II-era fighter planes from the West
Houston Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force. The
planes “strafed” the crowd with low-level fly-bys, complete with
a truck-mounted anti-aircraft machine gun firing a deafening
barrage of blanks as the aircraft flew across the gathering.
Each of the three tournament flights began with the
RE/MAX Skydiving Team jumping into the event pavilion area
to present the Texas and American flags as Sergeant First
J. Patrick Homes, Long Meadow Farms a
perfect pairing
Enjoying wine and food is all about pairing – much like the
pairing that’s so important for builders, developers and
Realtors.
A big crowd of Realtors heartily enjoyed the art of pairing
wine and food at a recent event hosted by Long Meadow
Farms and the popular builders in this west Houston
community.
Held at Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille in Katy, the event
launched the community’s new Realtor incentive program,
which can also be paired with J. Patrick Homes’ Realtor
program for maximum rewards.
At the J. Patrick Homes table, Realtors stopped by to enjoy
Italian meatballs paired with Perry’s 2006 Private Label
Reserve Meritage, a rich, balanced blend from California’s Napa
Valley.
The restaurant’s sommelier offered Realtors advice about
pairing wine and food. Later, Realtors tested their new pairing
skills with a pop quiz, with each correct answer yielding a cork
that could be redeemed for cash.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement
of Long Meadow Farms’ first annual Realtor
Appreciation Event, set for next January. Long Meadow
Farms will present Realtors with VISA gift cards ranging
from $250 for the first sale, to up to $750 per home with 6
or more sales. The community will also award prizes
including $3,000 for the top seller.
Realtors selling new J. Patrick homes in Long
Meadow Farms can reap additional incentives with the
builder’s Royal Rewards Realtor program. It includes a
$1,000 or choice of prizes for their first sale of a new J.
Patrick home in 2012, followed by a $2,500 BTSA for each
additional home.
J. Patrick Homes builds in several popular sections in Long
Meadow Farms, with prices from the $260’s to $400’s and quick
move-in homes now available.
Summer of Cinco – it’s on at Cinco Ranch
Instead of taking a summer vacation, Cinco Ranch has
geared up for its busiest season of the year. But don’t worry,
Realtors – Cinco is doing all the work, so you can relax and
enjoy several exciting new developments, including new model
homes, a major new amenity, and three new Katy ISD schools.
Following are a few details, and you can get the whole
story at a special webpage – cincoranch.com/summer.
New models
Cinco Ranch will officially celebrate the grand opening
of 8 new model homes and two new neighborhoods in
August, and the festivities will definitely include an awesome
Realtor preview.
But don’t wait to bring interested buyers, because the
models will be open by mid-June, with pre-grand opening
pricing from Trendmaker, Ryland, Village Builders,
Perry, Highland, Partners In Building and David
Weekley.
Both neighborhoods are located off of FM 1463 and like all
of Cinco Ranch, they are part of Katy ISD (more on our new
schools in a bit). Homesites range from 55 to 80 feet wide,
with many offering views of lakes, parks and greenbelts.
These two new villages are the first phase of an overall
492-acre expansion of Cinco Ranch that will ultimately provide
1,180 new homesites along with parks, lakes, a recreation
center and a Katy ISD elementary school site.
Later this summer, Cinco Ranch will celebrate the grand
opening of Ashfield Gardens, offering patio homes priced
from the mid $200’s to $400’s by David Weekley and Village
Builders. Located at Cinco Ranch Blvd. and Spring Green
Blvd., Ashfield Gardens will offer homesites from 45 to 65 feet
wide.
New amenity
Also this summer, Cinco Ranch will open a major
new amenity, the Rollingwood Recreation Center, located
near the current
model home village, at
Cinco Ranch Blvd. and
Cinco Falls Dr.
Highlights will include
a resort-style pool, a
water slide tower, tennis
courts, a picnic pavilion
and a playground. It
will also have a hillside
amphitheater for one of
Cinco Ranch’s favorite
resident activities,
movies in the park!
This new recreation
center joins a long list
of other amenities
including The Beach
Club, The Water Park,
The Lake House, The
Golf Club, the Bayou
Nature Trail, miles of
The “Summer of Cinco” includes 8
greenbelt trails, and
new models, a new rec center with a
many neighorhood
water slide, 3 new schools and more.
recreation centers.
New schools
There’s also a school boom on at Cinco Ranch. In August,
Katy ISD will welcome students to three new schools located
inside Cinco Ranch, including Tom Wilson
Elementary, Fred and Patti Shaffer Elementary, and
Seven Lakes Junior High.
With these openings, Cinco Ranch now has 16 onsite Katy
ISD schools serving grades K-12. Cinco Ranch is also home to
the University of Houston System at Cinco Ranch, where
students can pursue over 30 bachelor’s and master’s degree
programs.
Realtors’s celebrate new models in
Telfair’s final phase
In some ways, Telfair has saved the best for last with
Telfair Central, the final major new neighborhood in this Sugar
Land community, located at U.S. 59 South and University Blvd.
A big crowd of Realtors turned out for the grand opening
preview of Telfair Central, discovering four brand-new model
homes priced from the $300’s to $500’s by Ryland, David
Weekley and Village Builders.
While the models featured
many of the latest
innovations in design and
technology, the Realtor
event had a 1950’s soda
shop theme, with blendermade
milkshakes topped with whipped cream and cherries,
french fries and onion rings, and Angus beef sliders. In a nod to
Telfair’s diversity, curried
chickpea sliders
with spicy yogurt
sauce were also
served. Door prizes
including a 42-inch
Realty
Realtors with
potential homebuyers
shouldn’t wait long to
return to Telfair. As of
June 1, over one-third
of the homes in Telfair Central had already been sold.
Located in the center of Telfair’s 2,018-acre master plan,
Telfair Central is surrounded by lakes and linear parks,
and the neighborhood itself is filled with interior parks
called mews. A British term, mews traditionally refers to a
group of homes or stables surrounding a central court. Telfair
Central continues this tradition with many homesites overlooking
the mews.
Planned for fewer than 200 new homes, Telfair
Central is the final major chapter for Telfair, opened in
2006. In the Fort Bend ISD, Telfair has consistently been
one of the top-selling communities in Houston and the
United States, ranking 10th in the nation last year in
sales.
Relocation Specialist Sherry Glazener
‘Homes In’ on Firethorne
Realtor Sherry Glazener is a Fort Bend County-based relocation
specialist whose many clients move to Houston from all over the world
to work in the Energy Corridor. With her
guidance, prospective homebuyers target
West Houston neighborhoods to meet their
priority checklist, most often topped by
such essentials as excellent public schools,
ease of commute to and from I-10 to work,
a quiet, neighborly community and proximity
to retail and grocery stores.
Glazener, a GRI-certified Weichert
Realtors agent, says her clients are
attracted to new homes in Katy and that
new homes in the Firethorne masterplanned
community are winning them
over with their quality builders and
extensive community amenities. Glazener has sold two new Perry
Homes in Firethorne this year.
A former Lamar C.I.S.D. schoolteacher, Glazener enjoys working
with first-time homebuyers, for instance, to educate them about the
process of purchasing a home. She switched careers six years ago, joining
Weichert Realtors – Wayne Murray Properties for their “incredible
training program they offer their Realtors,” she said.
Firethorne’s more than 1,300 homeowners appreciate living where
the vibrancy of West Houston meets the small-town charm of
Katy/Fulshear. It is one of the area’s pre-eminent master-planned communities,
ranked in the “Top 5 Most Active Residential Communities in
the Houston Area” (2011 Houston Business Journal Book of Lists.)
Top quality schools in both Katy Independent School District
and Lamar C.I.S.D. are a big draw to Firethorne, especially with Katy
I.S.D. opening Firethorne’s first elementary school, Wolman Elementary,
for the 2012-13 school year. Homeowners also appreciate the array of
amenities, such as the Firethorne Competitive Swim Center with regulation
six-lane, 25-yard-long lap pool and children’s swim teams, clubhouse
and community center, a fully-equipped Fitness Center with certified
trainer on call, lighted tennis courts with organized tennis teams
and clinics and sports fields. Its 12-acre Lake Firethorne and hike/bike
trails, make it the ideal venue for the Rotary Club of Katy’s 20th
Annual Katy Triathlon at Firethorne October 28.
Firethorne 2012 Realtor Reward, program offers Realtors
who close on one new Firethorne home $500 BTSA*, which
increases to $1,000 BTSA* on a second closing and $2,000 BTSA*
on the third closing on contracts written through June 30, 2012.
The Firethorne builder team includes such premiere homebuilders
as Ashton Woods Homes and M/I Homes, with models in the Model
Park III west of FM 1463, Perry Homes, Highland Homes,
Coventry Homes, and Plantation Homes. New homes range in
price from the high $100s to the mid-$800s.
Firethorne blends with the best nature has to offer: 150 acres
devoted to parks and recreational amenities, greenbelts, hike
and bike trails, parks and playgrounds, discovery-rich wildlife
observation area and a natural bird habitat. The 1,400-acre community
is strategically located near the crossroads of the I-10 West corridor,
the Westpark Tollway and the Grand Parkway, 10 and 15 miles
west, respectively, of the Texas Medical Center-West Campus and
Houston’s Energy
Corridor.
Highland Homes Mid-Year Realtor Events a Success
The difference in a Highland home is unmistakable when
you walk through the door. From the artistry of the architecture,
the flawlessness of the décor and the attention to detail that can
only be designed by a woman. So it’s no surprise that when
Highland Homes’ co-owner, Jean Ann Brock, was on hand to
host several mid-year Realtor ® Events in Houston she drew quite
a crowd.
Industry top producers were in attendance to get a firsthand
look at the silver Mercedes E350 that will be given
away at the End of the Year Gala in January to one lucky
Realtor. To qualify, agents must sell 3 or more homes for the
opportunity to pick a key that could unlock the door to a brand
new car from Highland Homes.
Several have already qualified so Jean Ann brought special
gifts to the recent events to congratulate them on their success.
Attendees were also rewarded with a first class meal and
fabulous prizes that were true to Jean Ann’s style plus guests
were reminded about all of Highland’s bonus programs
including the graduated Visa Rewards program with a 1%
bonus on the second sale and 2% bonus on the third sale
and all sales following in the calendar year. Also mentioned
was the popular Relocation Reimbursement program which
pays the Realtor 1% of the total sales price to reimburse
relocation fees. Many party goers remarked after meeting
Jean Ann that it was easy to see why Highland has been so successful
for the past 27 years, with her infectious energy and
impeccable taste she has designed and built distinct homes that
are unmatched in the marketplace. And if you ask any Realtor
in the room they’ll tell you she throws the best parties; everyone
is always excited to find out what’s inside those Neiman’s boxes!
The Club at Carlton Woods Named “Best Overall Country Club” in Houston area by Avid Golfer Magazine
The Nicklaus and Fazio golf courses at The Club at Carlton Woods also achieved top rankings
The Club at Carlton Woods, home to a
Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and a
Tom Fazio Championship golf course, has
been named “Best Overall Country Club” in
the Houston area by Avid Golfer magazine
in its April/May 2012 issue. This is the fifth
time in the past six years that The Club
at Carlton Woods has achieved this honor,
according to William E. Langley, CCM,
vice president managing director of
clubs for The Woodlands Development
Company. The rankings are judged by a
team of panelists and staff at the magazine.
In the same edition, the Nicklaus
course at The Club at Carlton Woods was
named the #2 “Best Overall Golf Course” in
the Houston area by Avid Golfer while the
Fazio course was named the #4 “Best
Overall Golf Course”. Also, the Nicklaus
course was named the #2 and the Fazio
course was named #3 “Best Golf Experience”
in the Houston region by the magazine.
In the “Best of the Private Clubs 2012”
article, Avid Golfer stated, “…The Club at
Carlton Woods continues to dominate and
take home the title year in and year out.
This year, they are our choice as the Best
Overall Country Club for the Houston area,
the fifth time in six years that they’ve been
bestowed this honor. Their drive to five (they
previously won the award in 2007, 2009 -
2011) should not come as a surprise. Not
when you have a Jack Nicklaus and a Tom
Fazio golf course as amenities for members,
plus an opulent 53,000-square-foot main
clubhouse, another superb clubhouse for the
Fazio Creekside Course, first-class service
and other upscale amenities throughout.”
The Nicklaus course is located in the
gated community of Carlton Woods, and the
Tom Fazio Championship golf course is situated
in the gated enclave of Carlton Woods
Creekside. Both 18-hole, par-72 courses are
for play by members of The Club at Carlton
Woods. Carlton Woods is one of only two
gated communities in the United States
to offer a private Nicklaus/Fazio combination.
“It is rewarding for The Club at Carlton
Woods to be recognized as the ‘Best Overall
Country Club’ along with accolades for both
the Nicklaus and Fazio courses,” Langley
said. “The Nicklaus and the Fazio courses
take full advantage of the beautifully wooded
terrain in The Woodlands. Together, they
are the centerpiece of The Club at Carlton
Woods and continue to be recognized in
Houston, Texas and America.”
Most recently, both the Nicklaus and the
Fazio courses were ranked as “Top 100 Best
Residential Courses in America” by
Golfweek, 2008 – 2011; “Top 10 Best in
State Private Courses in Texas” by Golf
Digest, 2011; and “Top 12 Courses in Texas”
by Dallas Morning News, 2007 – 2010. Also,
The Club at Carlton Woods was named “Best
Private Course in Houston” in the Houston
Chronicle’s Golf Guide, 2010. For more
Woodforest Offers Ample One-Story Variety
An aging baby boomer population, young parents finding
it easier to chase little ones in homes without stairs or just
the fact that floorplans have evolved far beyond the 1950’s
ranch-style house — whatever the reason, one-story home
designs are making a comeback, especially in Woodforest.
Builders in Woodforest offer nearly 40 single-story
designs in the community,
responding to frequent
requests made
over the past several
years.
“We’ve had many people
visit our one-story
model, particularly from
The Woodlands. They are
thinking about downsizing
from larger homes,
but don’t want to sacrifice
when it comes to distinctive architecture and amenities,”
said Perry Homes’ Rick Kness. “On the strength of
requests for one-story plans, we refined our initial list of
available designs. Now, 10 of the 14 plans we offer in
Woodforest are single-story.”
A preference for one-story homes is a trend seen not only
in Houston, but across the nation, with Las Vegas recently
reporting an increase in popularity of one-story designs and
the New York Times citing interest in single-story homes
among both baby boomers and young families.
The Houston Chronicle reported last year that multistory
homes comprised 57 percent of the nation’s supply of
homes in 2006, but preference for two-story homes has
declined since then, dropping to 53 percent nationally in 2010.
Woodforest’s array of one-story designs range from homes
appealing to both first-time and move-up buyers. From a plan
offering nearly 1,500 square feet of living space to an expansive
single-story home with more than 3,800 square feet in
the new Spyglass Park neighborhood bordering
Woodforest Golf Club, there are designs to meet every
budget and lifestyle. Abundant structural options promise
buyers the ability to customize easily in line with their family
needs.
“There’s so much to choose from,” said Virgil Yoakum,
general manager of Woodforest. “From families who want
children’s bedrooms and play space on the main floor to
empty nesters preparing for the next phase of life, our buyers
will find that we are tuned into their needs.”
Residents are finding lots to do in Woodforest, as well,
from spending the morning at Woodforest Golf Club to taking
the grandkids to Lily Pad Spray Park for the afternoon.
Several other play areas are open in Woodforest and a very
special space just for Woodforest’s four-legged residents,
Admiral Bark Park, opens this summer. Devon Playfield, a
three-acre park catering to baseball and soccer enthusiasts,
also opens this summer and construction starts soon on
Forest Island, a recreation centerpiece for the community
whose first phase, comprising tennis and basketball courts
and a children’s play area, opens this fall.
Those deciding to explore beyond Woodforest won’t have
to travel far. Market Street, The Woodlands Mall and the
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion are just a few miles from
Woodforest and boating on Lake Conroe is just six miles
away. Even closer are the grocery stores, dry cleaners and
home improvement stores that make living so easy, with
Woodforest just three miles from Westwood Village Center.
Several major medical facilities also are within easy reach.
“We like to say we’re ‘in the center of it all,” Yoakum said.
