Texas Sentinels Foundation raises over $80,000
for wounded warriors in sporting clays tournament
The Apache Operation Lock-N-Load Sporting Clays tournament
at Rio Brazos Hunting Preserve in Simonton, Texas raised
over $80,000 for the Texas Sentinels Foundation over the weekend.
The hunting community, oilfield companies, local businesses,
and American patriots from all walks of society convened
for an exhilarating day of competitive marksmanship and
a tribute to our men and women of the U.S. Military.
The Texas Sentinels Foundation, which provides
debt-free housing and other support services to post-9/11
wounded warriors, elected to host the fundraiser to coincide
with Armed Forces Day (May 19, 2012).
Over 400 shooters participated in the competitive tournament.
Texas Sentinels Foundation sponsored more than 60
wounded warriors and active duty service members.
Guests enjoyed beautiful weather, great food, and day-long
activities which included an exciting performance by renowned
Beretta exhibition shooter Travis Mears. Dozens of tournament-quality
and exotic firearms were awarded to attendees
through fundraising raffles.
During mid-afternoon, the crowd was treated to an aerial
assault by three WW II-era fighter planes from the West
Houston Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force. The
planes “strafed” the crowd with low-level fly-bys, complete with
a truck-mounted anti-aircraft machine gun firing a deafening
barrage of blanks as the aircraft flew across the gathering.
Each of the three tournament flights began with the
RE/MAX Skydiving Team jumping into the event pavilion area
to present the Texas and American flags as Sergeant First
Class Cannon, U.S. Army, Houston Recruiting Command sang
the National Anthem.

perfect pairing
Enjoying wine and food is all about pairing – much like the
pairing that’s so important for builders, developers and
Realtors.
A big crowd of Realtors heartily enjoyed the art of pairing
wine and food at a recent event hosted by Long Meadow
Farms and the popular builders in this west Houston
community.
Held at Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille in Katy, the event
launched the community’s new Realtor incentive program,
which can also be paired with J. Patrick Homes’ Realtor
program for maximum rewards.
At the J. Patrick Homes table, Realtors stopped by to enjoy
Italian meatballs paired with Perry’s 2006 Private Label
Reserve Meritage, a rich, balanced blend from California’s Napa
Valley.
The restaurant’s sommelier offered Realtors advice about
pairing wine and food. Later, Realtors tested their new pairing
skills with a pop quiz, with each correct answer yielding a cork
that could be redeemed for cash.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement
of Long Meadow Farms’ first annual Realtor
Appreciation Event, set for next January. Long Meadow
Farms will present Realtors with VISA gift cards ranging
from $250 for the first sale, to up to $750 per home with 6
or more sales. The community will also award prizes
including $3,000 for the top seller.

The WCR’s Texas State Chapter Does it again 2011
National Super Mega Chapter Award of Excellence
This year the WCR Local Chapters traveled to Washington DC
for their yearly Mid-Year Meeting. Many of the Chapters won awards
for the excellence of their Chapters. Texas Chapters throughout the
state won Gold and others Silver awards.
The Heart of Texas Chapter in Waco won for new Chapter over
all others in the Nation as well as The Highland Lakes Chapter winning
for the Small Chapter and San Antonio winning Mega Chapter.
The Texas State Chapter won, over Florida and California, for
the second year in a row, the 2011 Super Mega State Chapter

Day Lantern Launch in
honor of fallen soldiers
and loved ones who
have passed away.
Approximately 200 attendees,
many of them Towne
Lake residents, came
together at sunset to take
part in the memorial celebration on the lake. Community members,
including several military veterans, dedicated more than
500 paper lanterns to those living and who have passed away.
The lanterns were released at dusk into the lake.
“We are grateful for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice
for us and our country, and are honored to be able to host
this event to remember them, as well as other loved ones who

Summer of Cinco – it’s on at Cinco Ranch
Instead of taking a summer vacation, Cinco Ranch has
geared up for its busiest season of the year. But don’t worry,
Realtors – Cinco is doing all the work, so you can relax and
enjoy several exciting new developments, including new model
homes, a major new amenity, and three new Katy ISD schools.
Following are a few details, and you can get the whole

New models
Cinco Ranch will officially celebrate the grand opening
of 8 new model homes and two new neighborhoods in
August, and the festivities will definitely include an awesome
Realtor preview.
But don’t wait to bring interested buyers, because the
models will be open by mid-June, with pre-grand opening
pricing from Trendmaker, Ryland, Village Builders,
Perry, Highland, Partners In Building and David

Both neighborhoods are located off of FM 1463 and like all

The Nicklaus and Fazio golf courses at The Club at Carlton Woods also achieved top rankings
The Club at Carlton Woods, home to a
Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course and a
Tom Fazio Championship golf course, has
been named “Best Overall Country Club” in
the Houston area by Avid Golfer magazine
in its April/May 2012 issue. This is the fifth
time in the past six years that The Club
at Carlton Woods has achieved this honor,
according to William E. Langley, CCM,
vice president managing director of
clubs for The Woodlands Development
Company. The rankings are judged by a
team of panelists and staff at the magazine.
In the same edition, the Nicklaus
course at The Club at Carlton Woods was
named the #2 “Best Overall Golf Course” in
the Houston area by Avid Golfer while the
Fazio course was named the #4 “Best
Overall Golf Course”. Also, the Nicklaus
course was named the #2 and the Fazio
course was named #3 “Best Golf Experience”
in the Houston region by the magazine.
In the “Best of the Private Clubs 2012”
article, Avid Golfer stated, “…The Club at

the fact that floorplans have evolved far beyond the 1950’s
ranch-style house — whatever the reason, one-story home
designs are making a comeback, especially in Woodforest.
Builders in Woodforest offer nearly 40 single-story
designs in the community,
responding to frequent
requests made
over the past several
years.
“We’ve had many people
visit our one-story
model, particularly from
The Woodlands. They are
thinking about downsizing
from larger homes,
but don’t want to sacrifice
when it comes to distinctive architecture and amenities,”
said Perry Homes’ Rick Kness. “On the strength of
requests for one-story plans, we refined our initial list of
available designs. Now, 10 of the 14 plans we offer in
Woodforest are single-story.”
A preference for one-story homes is a trend seen not only
in Houston, but across the nation, with Las Vegas recently
reporting an increase in popularity of one-story designs and
the New York Times citing interest in single-story homes
among both baby boomers and young families.
The Houston Chronicle reported last year that multistory
homes comprised 57 percent of the nation’s supply of
homes in 2006, but preference for two-story homes has
declined since then, dropping to 53 percent nationally in 2010.
Woodforest’s array of one-story designs range from homes
appealing to both first-time and move-up buyers. From a plan
offering nearly 1,500 square feet of living space to an expansive
single-story home with more than 3,800 square feet in
the new Spyglass Park neighborhood bordering
Woodforest Golf Club, there are designs to meet every
budget and lifestyle. Abundant structural options promise
buyers the ability to customize easily in line with their family
needs.
“There’s so much to choose from,” said Virgil Yoakum,
general manager of Woodforest. “From families who want
children’s bedrooms and play space on the main floor to
empty nesters preparing for the next phase of life, our buyers
will find that we are tuned into their needs.”
Residents are finding lots to do in Woodforest, as well,
from spending the morning at Woodforest Golf Club to taking
the grandkids to Lily Pad Spray Park for the afternoon.
Several other play areas are open in Woodforest and a very
special space just for Woodforest’s four-legged residents,
Admiral Bark Park, opens this summer. Devon Playfield, a
three-acre park catering to baseball and soccer enthusiasts,
also opens this summer and construction starts soon on
Forest Island, a recreation centerpiece for the community
whose first phase, comprising tennis and basketball courts
and a children’s play area, opens this fall.
Those deciding to explore beyond Woodforest won’t have
to travel far. Market Street, The Woodlands Mall and the
Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion are just a few miles from
Woodforest and boating on Lake Conroe is just six miles
away. Even closer are the grocery stores, dry cleaners and
home improvement stores that make living so easy, with
Woodforest just three miles from Westwood Village Center.
Several major medical facilities also are within easy reach.
“We like to say we’re ‘in the center of it all,” Yoakum said.

to children’s hospital
Agents from RE/MAX 1st Source in
Pasadena recently delivered over 70 new
teddy bears to Texas Children’s Hospital via
the Caring Bear Foundation. The agents
had been collecting the bears for the past several
weeks, under the leadership and encouragement
of agent Kimberly Stephens.
Stephens, of RE/MAX 1st Source, and
Alton Ng of RE/MAX 360 co-founded the
Caring Bear Foundation in 2011 as a way to
offer comfort to ailing children.
