Congratulations! Hidden Object Game Winner
The Catoctin Banner’s winner of the August issue’s Hidden Object Game is
Jeanne Davis. The Hidden Object was a beachball that was perched on top of
the barber pole in Gary the Barber’s advertisement on page 10. I thought I was
sneaky with that one, but well over 100 of you found it. Jeanne wins a $25
gift certificate to the advertiser of choice from the August issue.
This month’s Hidden Object is a horseshoe. If you find the hidden object,
plase call 301-271-4226 to leave a message or email news@thecatoctinbanner.
Pennsyvania, North Carolina and Ohio were present to show what they have
learned and to teach it to others in attendance. Each teacher, Sensei, has a
different flavor and style on how they present the different defense moves and
to pass it on to another is a great honor.
Dr. Moses Powell believed in survival through simplicity. If it is easier for
a person to understand and remember the moves, then he or she will be better
at defending themselves against an attack. He was not a proponent of fighting
for the entertainment value.
As Grand Master Darryl King stated, “You adapt the moves to what you
know.” Having grown up in SE DC, GM King started learning the art of
Sanuces Ryu Jujitsu 20 years ago. “I needed something that was going to
allow me to defend myself if needed, but I also like to grace, respect and the
history behind the art itself.” “I enjoy teaching and encourage people to try it.
They will be surprised how easy it is.”
The Town of Emmitsburg ended
the summer with a bang on Friday,
August 21 with a Family Swim Party.
Threatening weather did not spoil
the enthusiasm of the party. Those
who
attended
shared
table space
under the
pavilion
due to the
pending
threat
of rain.
Children
of all ages
staked
their space
under
the pavilion
with their
belongings
and quickly
jumped into the pool. There were
parents playing with toddlers in the
shallow end and a never-ending line
at the diving board where kids made
a splash while performing cannon
balls, pencil dives, flips and even
some belly flops.
A moon bounce provided by
Life Horse’s, Joe Topper, kept kids
hopping while music by Classic
Affairs D.J.’s. lended a rhythm to the
celebration.
Mayor Jim Hoover was on hand
to help oversee the night’s events
and enjoy the water frolics exhibited
by the largest crowd of attendees
in five years. Mayor Hoover said,
“I am pleased to see so many
families taking advantage of a great,
affordable family evening in their
own back yard.”
Although thunder cracked and
everyone had to exit the pool, the
rain came
with mild
lightning.
Those who
waited
out the
storm were
granted
a breathtaking
vision of
a double
arching
rainbow
When the storm had safely passed,
