Thurmont Elementary Welcomes New &
Returning Teachers

Tina Delauter is spending the
first half of her day at TPS and
the second half at TES as a special
education assistant. She lives in
Thurmont with her husband Kirby
and four children, Maureen, Will,
Emily and Sam. She has two dogs,
Bailey and Roxie and loves to read,
crochet, knit and spend time with
her family.
Anneliese Simpson is from
Thurmont. She worked at TMS
last year. This year she is a special
education assistant. Anneliese is
married to Alec and they have three
children, Julia, Nicholas and Ethan.
She has two cats, Angela and Tom
and a dog, Fritz. She likes to cook
and run in her free time. She is a
D.C. United Soccer fan.
Karen Jennings, from
Westminster, worked at Ballenger
Creek and has 12 years of
educational experience. Karen is
married to Tony and they have twin
boys, Tommy and Luke. She has
two dogs, Terrapin and Chessie. She
likes to scuba dive and watch her
teams, the Baltimore Ravens and
Maryland Terrapins, play.
Laura Estep from Thurmont
is returning to her old stomping
grounds after taking a few years
off for family time. Having been a
student at TES and then a teacher for
many years there, Laura is excited to
be back teaching 4th grade. Laura
is married to John and has three
children, Jack, Josie and Lucy. She
has a cat, Leo, and enjoys reading,
running and gardening.
Craig Scharp is back! He
returns to teach 5th grade again.
Craig is married to Monica and
they have three children, Josh, Ben
and Amanda. Mr. Scharp has an
interesting classroom; his is the
herpetology (reptile) classroom. In
addition to the skinned critters in
his classroom, at home he has two
dogs, four cats, turtles, lizards, frogs,
salamanders and snakes. Craig
loves to spend time camping with
his family and has an interest in
naturalist studies.
Jackie Pier is a Mount St Mary’s
intern who is working with the 3rd
grade this year. She has a dog named
Haley and a cat named Jack.
Melissa Monn is a Mount St.
Care for Infants — 6th Grade

Thurmont Middle’s New Asst. Principal
The staff and students at Thurmont Middle
School are happy to have Marty Rochlin as their new
Assistant Principal. Marty started out his career as
a counselor at Camp Airy in Thurmont, and then
went on to become an elementary and middle school
teacher. He has taught several different subjects, and
enjoys tutoring math. He advanced to the Assistant
Principal position at Crestwood Middle in 2004.
Marty lives in Ellicott City with his wife Pam
and their daughter Lilly. Marty is a big Orioles and
Ravens fan, loves and coaches soccer, and likes to
play a good game of basketball with the school staff
to unwind at the end of a day.

Marty is a “people person.” He earned the
“Clown Fish” award for the past four years at Crestwood. He is excited
to be at Thurmont Middle and has had a warm reception from the staff and
community so far. Marty feels that if he can make a difference with a child to
help their day go better, it is a good day at the office. He believes that solving
problems “makes school better for both students and families.” There of
course will be fires to put out, but he is hoping to do that with a positive
outcome for all involved.
Marty has an open door policy and is excited about the new school year
and is looking forward to meeting and working with the staff, students and
families.
CHS Safe and Sane
Calling all 2010 senior parents. The Safe and Sane Group has started
planning for our graduating seniors. The Safe and Sane Committe meets the
2nd Wednesday of each month, at the CHS Media Center at 7:00 p.m. (except
the month of October which will meet on October 7). The Committee would
like to thank our past sponsors and supporters and welcome your continued
support. It’s our great community that makes this event possible.

Mary’s intern who is looking to
specialize in 1st grade. She has a son
named Dakota, a dog named Harley
and loves to attend baseball games.
Mellissa says, “I go for the food.”
Kate Loverock is a graduate of
Mount St. Mary’s and is excited to be
teaching special education, Learning
for Life. She has two dogs, Pebbles
and Rosie. She is a Steelers and
Orioles fan.
Jessica Petela from Thurmont is
coming from Whittier Elementary
teaching special education. She has a
dog named Ralph and enjoys spending
her free time with her family.
Christina Koerper is a Mount St
Mary’s intern who is specializing in
special education. She is presently on
the Woman’s Golf league at the Mount.
