Thurmont Curves under New Ownership

owners of the Thurmont Curves as
of August 28. Jamie Keller has been
in fitness for eight years as a personal
trainer, water aerobics instructor, and
senior exercise instructor teaching
Pilates, Power Flex and more. She
holds a Senior Exercise
Certification through
AFAA as well as a
Personal Training
Certification through
SCW.
The Kellers
invite ladies from
all over our region
to get into the
new Curve Smart
System which will
be introduced by the
end of September.
The Curve Smart
System records the
workout of a person
when the user
inserts their card
into each piece of
equipment they use.
Via the computer
card, the user’s workout
details like calories burned, time on
each machine and settings used are
monitored and recorded. At the end
of the workout, the computer charts
the user’s progress and gives goals for
the next workout.
The Kellers also promote the
Curves’ weight management plan
which teaches a life style of healthy

Thurmont Curves is partnering
with the Silver Sneakers Program in
order to help participants be healthy.
Many insurance companies will pay
or reimburse all or part of the cost of
Curves membership under the Silver
Sneakers Program.
Jamie’s personal
goal is “to help

through Curves.
They’ll live more
healthily, have
more energy and
have better eating
habits as a result
of working out
three times a
week for just 30
minutes. Weight

effect of this goal.”

Ownership
The St. Philomena
Catholic Books and Gifts
store, located at 200-4 West
Main Street in Emmitsburg,
is under new ownership.
On June 1, Pam Sielaff
and her husband, Bruno,
became the official owners
of the store which was
formerly owned by Allison
and Richard Mauro. “A
priest blessed the business
as a communication center
rather than a retail store,”
Pam said. “My goal is to
spread the gospel through the store.
It’s not just a business, it’s a ministry
where people can grow closer to
God.”
Pam has made some subtle
changes to the store like organizing
a wall of crosses with unique crosses
and starting a prayer list. She
and her family have added fresh
paint and plan to remove a wall to
make more retail space. While the
store already boasts an impressive
collection of retail items like jewelry,
medallions, books, rosaries, art,
plus various items made by nuns,
Pam is reaching out to local artisans
to consign even more unique art.
In addition, special orders are
welcomed.
The month of September is a
month-long Grand Re-Opening
Celebration at the store with giveaways,
door prizes, special guests
and refreshments. Fr. Vincent
O’Malley, St. Joseph’s Parish pastor
who has also authored several books
including Saints of Africa, Ordinary
Suffering of Extraordinary Saints,
and Saints of North America, will
make an appearance on September
12 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. Fr. Devasia

Pudussery, C.M., a Vincentian
priest serving at St. Joseph’s Parish
and a well-known retreat master
who wrote The Sacrament of
Love Redefined will be a guest on
September 19 from 12:00-3:00 p.m.
Local author, Charles W. Gill, will be
promoting his book, The Perpetual
Mystery, which is geared towards
teens and young adults through
adventure-filled writing. He will
appear on September 26 from 12:00-
4:00 p.m.
Signed copies of Fr. Leo
Patalinghug’s book, Grace Before
Meals are available in the store.
Fr. Patalinghug is a Pastoral Field
Director at Mount St. Mary’s
University. Also, the video, Mary’s
Mountain which was created and
produced by the Mauros and aired
on EWTN is available exclusively at
St. Philomena’s.
Pam extends a debt of gratitude
to Allison and Richard Mauro for all
they’ve done to bring the store to the
level it is and for their faith and spirit
to start the store.
