50 PERFORMANCE REVIEW BuSINESS REvIEW By CHIEF EXECuTIvE OFFICER RIDING THE MOMENTUM The Group stands at the threshold of a new dynamism. Post the 2006 listing of the Company, the major accomplishments of the Group include: • In financial year 2010, Group revenue has almost tripled to RM909.1 million from RM361.1 million registered in 2006. • During the same period, profit before tax rose to RM282.4 million, a 20-fold increase from RM14.1 million previously. • Earnings per share grew to 29.63 sen from 3.49 sen in 2006. • The improvement in our financial performance is also reflected in the Company’s performance on Bursa Malaysia, which has risen from RM2.10 at year-end 2006 to close at RM3.39 at year-end 2010. TRADEWINDS PLANTATION BERHAD Annual Report 2010 • Progressive increase in our landbank to 141,465 hectares through strategic acquisitions. • From a single crop plantation in 2006, we have successfully diversified into rubber as the Group’s second plantation crop, with 4,164 hectares now planted with rubber. • Registered steady improvements in FFB yield, CPO production and extraction rates. All these demonstrate that we are a Group that is built on performance, achieving year-on-year improvements on both the financial and operational fronts. As we move forward, our fundamentals are strong and this is best reflected in the quality of our financial position. Even after factoring in capital expenditure incurred in recent strategic acquisitions, we have ensured that our gearing is kept at a very manageable level. The Group also has enough cash reser ves to finance any capital expenditure investments in the near future. The results we have achieved so far have propelled the Group into the ranks of one of the key players in the agriculture industry. It has also given our people a new-found confidence and they are now sharing their expertise in areas where the Group has unique knowledge and experience such as the development of oil palm plantations on peat, where TPB is one of the trailblazers. This was demonstrated last year when our staff presented papers at international conferences. Highlighting the Group’s experience in the “Best Agro-management Practices in Land Development”; “Rubber Cultivation: Issues and Challenges; Economics of Mechanisation – Estate Experiences”; and “Development of Oil Palm on Peat: A Socio-Economic Perspective”, - all three papers were well received by the international audience.
Our people must be considered among the Group’s greatest strengths. This is the same team that has taken the Group to where we are today. Riding on the momentum established, our people are all geared up and raring to go. The Group has come a long way but we have some distance yet to go to realise our full potential. I believe with the continued support and trust of our business associates, respective stakeholders and our Board of Directors, together with our team of committed colleagues, we will meet all set targets in due course.
