1. Use of graph paper.<br />

2. Detailed classification of weaves - Elementary, Compound and Complex.<br />

3. Introduction to the following weaves alongwith their draft plan and peg plan :<br />

Plain weave - Rib and Basket, Twill weave- Regular, Pointed Honey Comb, Satin, Sateen, Pile<br />

weave-Cut and Uncut.<br />

4. Introduction to Computer Aided Weaving.<br />

YARN PREPARATION AND FABRIC STRUCTURE<br />

PRACTICAL<br />

Time : 3 hrs. Max. Marks : 25<br />

1. Warp and Weft winding, Pin winding, Bobbin winding and cone winding.<br />

2. Plain Weave-Preparation of wrap, drafting, denting and drawing.<br />

3. Basket Weave-Preparation of warp, drafting, denting and drawing.<br />

4. Simple exercise on different types of knotting.<br />

Time: 3 hrs Semester-II M. Marks : 50<br />

1. Regular twill Weave - Preparation of warp, drafting, denting and drawing.<br />

2. Pile Weave - Preparation of warp, drafting, denting and drawing.<br />

3. Introduction in Computer Aided Weaving.<br />

All practicals to be recorded in file along with procedures, analysis and samples.<br />

Atleast three visits to reputed textile industry, quality control centre or textile related institute,<br />

maintaining record of the visits and report writing for the same.<br />

HANDLOOM MECHANICS AND OPERATIONS<br />

Paper-III THEORY<br />

1) History of weaving & its importance in textile craft.<br />

2) Types and parts of warping machine-creel stand, hackreed, warpreed, guide roller, warping<br />

drum, warping beam and drawing hooks and their functioning.<br />

3) a) Types and parts of handlooms and their functioning.<br />

b) Harnessing of Handloom.<br />

4) Different types & parts of shuttle.<br />

1) Process of handloom fitting.<br />

2) Motions of the handloom -<br />

a) Primary motions - shedding, picking & beating up.<br />

b) <strong>Secondary</strong> motions - Taking up & letting off.
