• Methods of irrigation and laying of irrigation channels and pipes in relation to types of soil and<br />

• Type of Pumps, principles of operation, constructional details and application of centrifugal<br />

pumps & submersible pumps.<br />

• Estimation of heads, discharge and power requirement of a pump-set.<br />

• Fundamentals of electricity, units of measurement and different meters.<br />

Syllabus Internal Assessment: 15<br />

Semester-II Total Marks: 45<br />

• Types of diesel engines and electric motors for pumping sets.<br />

Sefety precautions while handling electrical appliances including motors. Trouble shooting &<br />

maintenance of diesel engines.<br />

Types of tubewells, selection of sites, drilling methods, installation of pumping sets.<br />

Rain water irrigation<br />

Harvesting :<br />

• Functions and Materials of construction of harvesing devices-sickle, reaper, combine, potato &<br />

groundnut digger.<br />

Threshing :<br />

• Functions & materials of construction of wheat thresher, different types of threshing cylinders<br />

and their adjustments.<br />

• Safe use of threshers & storage.<br />

IRRIGATION, HARVESTING & TUBEWELL TECHNOLOGY<br />

Time : 3 hrs. PRACTICAL M. Marks : 25<br />

Semester-I<br />

• Demonstration of different methods of irrigation.<br />

• Identification of different types of pumps and their parts.<br />

• Dismantling & assembling of centrifugal pump.<br />

• Installation of pump, prime mover, fitting of pipes, valves, pulleys and checking for correct<br />

alignment; priming, gland packing, operation and trouble shooting of centrifugal pump sets,<br />

periodical servicing.<br />

• Dismantling of submersible pump, materials of construction of different components and<br />

maintenance.<br />

Time : 3 hrs. PRACTICAL M. Marks : 50<br />

SEMESTER-II<br />

• Practice in the use of voltmeter, ammeter and megger.
