1. Technical terms :<br />
Define Automobile Engine, Power, H.P., I.H.P., B.H.P., F.H.P. Diesel cycle,Auto cycle, stroke,<br />
TDC, BDC, Compression Ratio, Swept volume, Clearance volume, Total volume, Mechanicl<br />
efficency. Pressure, Heat, Temperature.<br />
2. Engine :<br />
Classification-principle, basic engine operations, 4-stroke, & 2-stroke cycle engine & their<br />
difference, spark & compression ignition and their difference.<br />
3. Engine Construction & Mechanism :<br />
Cylinder blocks, crank case, cylinder liner, cylinder head, parts and manifolds, Piston, piston pin, piston<br />
ring, connecting rod, crankshaft, cam shaft, flywheel and valves.<br />

1. Ignition system :<br />
Magneto and battery ignition & their difference study of batteries, capacitor discharge ignition<br />
system, Distributor, ignition coil, spark plugs, ignition timing, firing order.<br />
2. Fuel system :<br />
(a) Petrol: Fuel line diagram, fuel feed pump, carburettor-function and working principles, air<br />
filter, fuel gauge, inlet and exhaust manifold. Introduction to MPFI system (Multi Point Fuel<br />
Injection Systems).<br />
(b) Disel: Fuel line, diagram, fuel-injection pump, pressure pipe, fuel injector. Introduction to<br />
CRDI (Common Rail Direct Injection System).<br />
3. Engine Cooling system :<br />
Cooling requirement, cooling systems, air cooling and liquid cooling, water jacket, coolant pump,<br />
cooling fan, radiator, pressure cap, introduction to thermostat.<br />
4. Lubrication system :<br />
Principles, functions, properties of lubricating oil. Introduction to SAE rating, lubricating<br />
system, crank-case ventilation, oil filtor, oil pump (gear type and electrical) oil pressure gauge.<br />
Introduction to Charging and starting system :<br />

using a sectional model.<br />

using a sectional model.
