Page 8 Manufacturers Hear Rep. Brown The Honorable Clarence J. Brown, M.C., 7th Ohio District, was the guest of honor and mafn speaker at the New Jersey Manufacturers Association's 3Stfi Annual Dinner, held in Atlantic City on May 6. Congressman Brown was the author of the legislation which created the "Hoover Commission" and served as a member of that group (or the two years during which it operated. In his address to the New Jersey Manufacturers Association, Congressman Brown reviewed many of the findings and recommendations of the "Hoover Commission," placing special emphasis on the present hazardous program of deficit spending. Ml. 1-421 The speaker pointed out that the Federal budget is a huge document or book of 1,670 pages, from which it is practically impossible to determine the real cost of any of the various programs or activities of our Government. "These 1,670 pages," said the speaker, "are all in fine type—with column after column of small figures, which are almost impossible even to read— let along interpret. For instance, one title in the Veteran's Administration budget is a single lin 'Salaries and Expenses, $848,897.- 000.' On another page in the budget is a similar short item for 'Carfare and bicycle allowance, $42.00.' "To determine the cost of some government operations, one would have to look for and find some twenty or thirty different items in .different portions or sections oi the budget document. In discussing government hospitals, Congressman Brown stated that new government hospitals were found to De under construction in cities or communities where other Federal hospitals were being closed or abandoned for lack of patients. In one government hospital visited, more doctors than patients were found, and in enother less than fifty per cent of the beds were in use. Yet the hospital building program of the Federal Government was going madly ahead. Turning to the bureaucratic "red tape" which has enmeshed the American people, Congressman Brown exhibited a form currently being used by the Veterans' Administration in conjunction with free dental care for veterans. The speaker stated that this form (VA Form 10-2570) is an illustration of what the entire medical profession will be up against if socialized medicine is put into effect, Eight copies of the form must be executed and forwarded before the dentist is paid for his services. The form consists of 671 blank spaces which must be filled out. In the case of a simple x-ray, fifty per cent more time is required to complete the form than is needed for the actual performance of the x-ray examination. In closing, Congressman Brown urged his listeners to support the recommendations of the "Hoover Commission"; to vote in every election, local State and National; and to take a sincere and active interest in the real issues for which political candidates and parties stand and to support only those men and women for public office who believe in our traditional form of American Government— the private enterprise system. "Freedom is an indivisible thing," said the speaker. "A man cannot lose a part of his freedom and fftill remain free. He cannot lose the freedom of choice and still call life his own. The right of each citizen to choose how he will worship, speak, write, rear his children, and work out hie own destiny—that is freedom—AMERI- CAN STYLE!" • Park Blossoms Attract Many Hundreds of local end non-local residents enjoyed the beautiful cherry blossoms at Taylor Park during this last week. Many amateur photographers and painters -were busy every day taking and painting (pictures. Comments from various people indicated this year's display was the most beautiful they had ever seen at Taylor Park. In the Realm Of Commerce Among employees of the Prudential Insurance Company who are being honored this month for their long service with the company is Walter N. Cooper, assistant manager of the mail department. Mr. Cooper has seen the mail department grow tremendously during his 45 years of service. He lives at 19 Southern Slope drive. Fred C, Kendall of Hardwell road is editor and publisher of the new magazine "Suburban Life in New Jersey" which is designed to reflect the interests and activities of 'suburban families" throughout the State. Dealing chiefly with "the arts of gracious living in our lovely suburbs' Suburban Life will view "the broad pattern of suburban institutions, social interests, homes, hobbies, arts, amusements and relationships to metropolitan life." In this manner the maga zine hopes to become a literate influence in the life of the eubilrbs. Mr. Kendall, for 25 years vicepresident and director of Rob Publishing- Corp..
