It’s time to rediscover Canadian winter traditions, and enjoy spectacular ice carvings, the biggest snow playground on the continent and the 7.8-kilometre Rideau Canal Skateway — the world’s largest skating rink. On behalf of the National Capital Commission (NCC), we are pleased to invite you to share in the spirit of winter, as it comes alive in this 35th edition of Winterlude. More than 75 programming partners join us to offer you three fun-filled weeks of activities. Winterlude 2013 will highlight the 100th anniver - sary of the first Arctic expedition, the passage of explorer Samuel de Champlain through the Capital Region 400 years ago, the 300th anniver - sary of the establishment of the French colony Île Royale (Cape Breton Island) and the founding of the town of Louisbourg, the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, as well as the 50th anniversary of Canada’s diplomatic relations with South Korea. We would like to express our thanks to the more than 700 volunteers, sponsors, partners and collaborators for their generous contribution. They play a large part in the success of one of North America’s most famous winter celebrations. So bundle up, come outside and discover winter in Canada’s Capital Region! Wheelchair-accessible portable toilets and heated chalets: Available at various Winterlude sites. Shuttle Service: The Sno-Bus will be accessible at all times for people with reduced mobility thanks to the use of low-floor buses.
