SABIAN Introduces Perfect Sets with The MIX
Mixed-series cymbal packs an industry first
MEDUCTIC, Canada (July 21, 2011) – The perfect cymbal pack is all about the perfect mix of
cymbals. But the perfect mix of cymbals is not always about the same cymbal series. This was the
thinking behind the development of The MIX, a collection of mixed-series cymbal sets, sonically
matched in the SABIAN Vault.
“Other than occasional one-offs, including our own HH/HHX Praise & Worship pack, we believe
this is the first time a cymbal company has developed a line of mixed-series cymbal sets,” claims
SABIAN VP Sales Peter Stairs. “Although most drummers start with a core sound, usually identified
by a specific cymbal series, we know that over time they expand their set-ups to add new sonic
colours by adding other series to their set-ups. Oddly enough, there are no packs in the market that
address this need.”
Once the need was identified, experts in the SABIAN Vault were tasked with creating mixed-series
sets, sonically matched to appeal to drummers of all skill levels. Able to tap into 30+ years of
experience working extensively with world-renowned artists like Jojo Mayer, Mike Portnoy and Dave
Weckl, the Vault team soon came to the table with an initial 5-set offering. From the Basement to the
Arena, these MIX sets hit key player demographics and price points:
MEDUCTIC, Canada (July 21, 2011) - As a result of the tremendous success of SABIAN U,
SABIAN has just announced the launch of a Band & Orchestral curriculum. Comprised of 4 brand
new courses, the new curriculum is specifically designed for retailers of Band & Orchestral
instruments.
SABIAN U was launched in 2010 as an online school of higher learning developed for SABIAN
retailers around the globe. Originally launched with a series of 8 training modules, SABIAN U is
packed with the unique insight required for retailers to help customers choose the right cymbal,
driving their sales upward. The new courses are designed to help drive sales for B&O retailers:
- B&O 101: A B&O Primer
- B&O 102: Hand Cymbals
- B&O 103: Suspended Cymbals
- B&O 104: More Than Cymbals
Like all SABIAN U courses, the B&O curriculum is entirely video-based. Retailers interested in
participating simply register online and work through the video courses at their convenience. Pop-up
quizzes appear throughout the course, and viewers must answer the multiple-choice-style questions
before continuing.
At the conclusion of the course, students are given a grade, and the grades are registered in their
personal account section, a great tool for store managers to keep track of staffers’ grades.
Students who pass the 4 core SABIAN B&O courses will be sent a certificate of their designation as
SABIAN B&O Specialist. A SABIAN Sound Specialist certificate is also available for those who pass
the 7 core SABIAN U courses.
Legendary Mariano Series Drums Are Back!
Gon Bops reissues classic drum line
MEDUCTIC, Canada (July 21, 2011) - Since launching the company in 1954, Gon Bops founder
Mariano Bobadilla built only one line of drums that would carry his name: the Mariano Series drums
were built from Philippine Mahogany and incorporated traditional counter hoops, tuning rods and
side plates. They also utilized three reinforcing metal hoops around their traditional Cuban shaped
shells.
Gon Bops is proud to announce that Mariano Series Congas and Bongos are back. Constructed from
sustainable Durian hardwood – virtually identical in performance properties to the original Philippine
Mahogany – the new line uses the same traditional counter hoops, side plates, reinforcing metal
hoops, and authentic Gon Bops cowhide heads as did the original classics. The natural heads and
superb build quality make for a full bodied, authentic sound – from cutting slaps to big resonant bass
tones.
“It’s important for us as a company to preserve our heritage and to keep this legendary model alive,”
claims Gon Bops product designer and master builder Akbar Moghaddam. “Although we have
incorporated subtle changes to improve these classic instruments, we’re still using the 5-ear top ring
design that can also be ordered as replacement parts for the original models, as can the side plate and
tension rod. This is great news for owners of vintage models!”
Mariano Series drums are available in 4 traditional sizes and Bongos are professional size 7” Macho
and 8.5” Hembra.
Model# Name Size
MB1075 Quinto 10.75” X 30”
MB1150 Conga 11.5” X 30”
MB1225 Tumba 12.25” X 30”
MB1325 Super Tumba 13.25” x 30”
MBBG Bongo 7” and 8.5”
