Validov, A.-Z. (Validi) (1890-1970). Bashkir national figure. 1917-1918 head <strong>of</strong> the counter-revolutionary<br />

bourgeois-nationalistic government <strong>of</strong> Bashkiria. In January 1919 he passed over to the side <strong>of</strong> the Soviet<br />

authorities. February - May 1919 and February - June 1920 chairman <strong>of</strong> the Revolutionary Committee <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Bashkir Soviet Republic. Dissatisfied with the policy <strong>of</strong> Moscow concerning Bashkiria, he became one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

ideologists <strong>of</strong> the basmatch movement (till February 1923). In 1920 he escaped with a group <strong>of</strong> his adherents to<br />

Turkestan, then to Turkey. Subsequently became a pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Istanbul University.<br />

Vasilyev, A. N. (1880-1941). Soviet diplomat and functionary <strong>of</strong> the Comintern. 1923-1925 plenipotentiary<br />

representative and trade representative <strong>of</strong> the USSR in Mongolia. 1925-1926 General consul <strong>of</strong> the USSR in<br />

Mukden, China. 1926 in the staff <strong>of</strong> the Eastern Department <strong>of</strong> the ECCI continuing the diplomatic work.<br />

Voitinsky, G. N. (real surname - Zarkhin) (1893-1953). Soviet Party and Comintern figure. 1920-1921<br />

representative <strong>of</strong> the Foreign Department <strong>of</strong> the Far Eastern Bureau <strong>of</strong> the RCP (B), the Section <strong>of</strong> the Peoples<br />

<strong>of</strong> the East <strong>of</strong> the Siberian Bureau <strong>of</strong> the RCP (B) in China and member <strong>of</strong> the Presidium <strong>of</strong> the Far Eastern<br />

Secretariat <strong>of</strong> the Comintern. 1923 one <strong>of</strong> the heads <strong>of</strong> the Far Eastern Secretariat <strong>of</strong> the ECCI and deputy head<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Eastern Department <strong>of</strong> the ECCI. 1924-1927 representative <strong>of</strong> the ECCI in China (with interruptions).<br />

1926-1927 responsible secretary <strong>of</strong> the Far Eastern Secretariat <strong>of</strong> the ECCI and chairman <strong>of</strong> the Far Eastern<br />

Bureau <strong>of</strong> the ECCI in Shanghai. 1927-1929 attached to work in the economic field. 1923-1934 secretary <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Pacific Secretariat <strong>of</strong> the Pr<strong>of</strong>intern (Red <strong>International</strong> <strong>of</strong> Trade Unions). 1934 research and pedagogic work.<br />

Yermekov, A. (1891-?). Kazakh national figure. One <strong>of</strong> the founders <strong>of</strong> the »Alash« party, belonging to the<br />

»Alash-Orda« government. Assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor at Kirghiz (Kazakh) University in Alma-Ata. 1930 arrested,<br />

sentenced to imprisonment.<br />

Yumagulov, Kh.Yu. (1891-1937). Bashkir national figure. 1918-1922 member <strong>of</strong> the CPSU (B), then excluded<br />

for »nationalistic« activities. 1927 again candidate, 1931 member <strong>of</strong> the party again. May 1919 - February 1920<br />

chairman <strong>of</strong> the Revolutionary Committee <strong>of</strong> the Bashkir Soviet Republic. Later working in the economic and<br />

Soviet fields.<br />
