Marketing Management<br />

Marketing Management looks <strong>at</strong> the world from<br />

the point <strong>of</strong> view <strong>of</strong> consumers. It is important<br />

to understand how to s<strong>at</strong>isfy their needs and<br />

wants in a world full <strong>of</strong> an ever increasing<br />

variety <strong>of</strong> goods and services.<br />

Wh<strong>at</strong> do we mean by value? How does<br />

advertising work? Why do people buy things?<br />

Are customers always right? Are products<br />

different from services? Wh<strong>at</strong> is a brand?<br />

These are marketing questions and answering<br />

them helps us to understand, influence and<br />

better meet the needs <strong>of</strong> other people or<br />

organis<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

Marketing is essential to almost every<br />

industry and to every part <strong>of</strong> society. You’ll<br />

learn transferable skills th<strong>at</strong> will be useful<br />

to you wherever you go, for example, group<br />

work, communic<strong>at</strong>ion, analysis, negoti<strong>at</strong>ion,<br />

management skills. Above all, Marketing is fun<br />

and relevant to everyday life.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

There are many career opportunities and<br />

gradu<strong>at</strong>es can start on approxim<strong>at</strong>ely $35-<br />

40,000 per annum, with experienced and<br />

successful marketers earning $100,000 plus.<br />

Marketing Management is a broad-based<br />

discipline, so gradu<strong>at</strong>es are well-equipped<br />

to work in a huge variety <strong>of</strong> roles within<br />

organis<strong>at</strong>ions large and small across the<br />

priv<strong>at</strong>e, public and not-for-pr<strong>of</strong>it sectors.<br />

Many <strong>of</strong> our gradu<strong>at</strong>es begin their careers as<br />

part <strong>of</strong> a formal gradu<strong>at</strong>e training programme<br />

with such well-known companies as Nestlé,<br />

L’Oréal or Tip Top. Others choose to work<br />

for a smaller organis<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong>fering equally<br />

stimul<strong>at</strong>ing career opportunities ranging from<br />

sales to advertising or market research to<br />

market analysis.<br />

For a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Commerce (BCom) majoring<br />

in Marketing Management you must complete<br />
