<strong>Shodair</strong> Wins Employer<br />
of the Year Award<br />
<strong>Shodair</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> was proud to be named<br />
Helena's Outstanding Large Employer at an award<br />
presentation last November.<br />
<strong>Shodair</strong> was selected for the honor by the Helena<br />
Job Service Employers Committee based on a<br />
nomination submitted by a hospital employee.<br />
Nominated facilities were judged on four categories:<br />
Creating a positive workplace; providing employees<br />
with exceptional job training; encouraging<br />
community participation; and contributing to<br />
the Helena community.<br />

Leigh Fahlquist, LCPC, a primary therapist at<br />
<strong>Shodair</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>, was recently honored<br />
with a Lives in the Balance CPS Trailblazer<br />
Award at a presentation in Maine. Leigh was<br />
chosen for the honor in recognition of his work to<br />
teach families more about the Collaborative<br />
Problem Solving (CPS) approach through the new<br />
parent education groups he facilitates at <strong>Shodair</strong>.<br />
Lives in the Balance is the non-profit organization<br />
founded by child psychologist Dr. Ross Greene,<br />
who developed the CPS approach used at <strong>Shodair</strong><br />
and other treatment facilities across the country.<br />

a leader in each of the award categories, and that<br />
we are fortunate to have an employer such as<br />
<strong>Shodair</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> in our community. We<br />
are proud of <strong>Shodair</strong> and the work that you do.”<br />
behaviorally challenging kids and their caregivers<br />
to provide free web-based resources to help adults<br />
understand these children in ways that are more<br />
compassionate and help them in ways that are<br />
more effective.<br />
“Leigh has been steadfast in his commitment to<br />
helping children and families,” said <strong>Shodair</strong>'s<br />
Director of Psychology, Laura Fuller, Ph.D. “He<br />
puts CPS into practice on a daily basis and works<br />
hard to keep it alive at <strong>Shodair</strong>, in the local<br />
community, and in the state of Montana.”<br />
Leigh earned his degree in psychology from<br />
Texas A & M University and his graduate degree in<br />
counseling and human services from the University<br />
of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He has worked<br />
at <strong>Shodair</strong> <strong>Children's</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong> for eight years.<br />
Leigh is assigned to the hospital's High Desert<br />
and Yellowstone Units, helping children ages<br />
four through thirteen cope with diagnoses like<br />
depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, severe<br />
ADHD, bipolar disorder, and other psychiatric<br />
illnesses.<br />
