Welcome SHODAIR
Shodair Children's Hospital is
about to embark on another exciting milestone in its
116-year legacy of caring for Montana's children:
the ground breaking for Shodair Family House.
This beautiful new facility will function as an integral
part of our campus, providing a place for families to
stay while visiting their children in treatment here.
Shodair Family House will make it easier for them
to participate in intensive family therapy, learn more
about the Collaborative Problem Solving treatment
model we use, and begin the process of reuniting
their children with their families and communities.
Shodair Family House will also serve as a teaching
and education center. We know that active
participation of families in intensive therapy and
parenting classes is essential to recovery and longterm
independence for their children. Many families
we serve are poor and unable to travel to visit their
children and participate in family therapy. Few local
resources are available to assist them. Collaborative
Problem Solving is an approach built on the
philosophy that children succeed if they can—when
they are provided with appropriate skills to do so—
rather than if they want to. The same is true for
families. The creation of Shodair Family House
will facilitate the therapy, education, and support
provided to our families.

Additionally, Shodair Family House will be used as a
professional teaching and education center, offering
opportunities for other professionals to advance their
abilities in their own work with Montana's families.
Shodair Children's Hospital has been awarded a
challenge grant of $500,000 from the Montana
Mental Health Settlement Trust, with the provision
that we raise the additional matching funds necessary
for the construction of Shodair Family House. We
also received a “top off” grant from the M.J. Murdock
Charitable Trust in the amount of $225,000. So far,
we've raised a total of $1,117,005, which means we
need to raise an additional $159,195.
This project is significant to Shodair, one that will
greatly enhance our ability to carry out our vision
and mission. The funding for Shodair Family House
has come from many sources, including those who
have been long-time supporters of Shodair and its
work to serve children and families throughout
Montana. Each of us here at Shodair thanks you for
your continued support, and we look forward to
many more years of providing excellent care for
Montana's children.
