To Cure Them with, When They Have Been Shot<br />

This, in the beginning, has to be sung:<br />
Gu'ya' (4 times), in the middle of the rocks Gvya', Gu"ya',<br />
Gv'ya' (3 times), in the middle of the earth Gu'ya (3 times).<br />
Gu'ya' (3 times), in the middle of the woods Gu'ya (3 times).<br />
Gu'ya' (3 times), in the middle of the water Gu'ya (3 times).<br />
And this now has to be recited: Now, then! Ha, on high, in the<br />
center thou art staying, Brown Dog. Ha, now, thou hast come to let<br />
thy path down. Thou hast come to halt in the middle of the spot<br />
where the blood is spouting. Now, it has become thy saliva. Relief<br />
has been caused forthwith. Now, then!<br />
To cure them with when they have been shot. A buzzard feather<br />
cut off at both ends (should be used) to blow with. And hickory<br />
(bark) should be chewed. Where the bullet has hit bim,^^ down and<br />
soft feathers of the buzzard should be plastered. Rigorously re-<br />
stricted are: Tobacco during four days; (both) they who cure and also<br />
they who are being cured should abstain from it for a considerable<br />
time; and from salt also (during) four (days); and from warm (food)<br />
he ^^ must also abstain for four days (this latter restriction referring<br />
only to) those who have been shot. Should no buzzard feather be<br />
available, the hollow Gerardia is (to be used) to blow them.<br />
