We, the members of the church, do join with you in the covenant that
you make this day on behalf of this your child. As those who are yoked
with her in the universal company of Christ’s people, we rejoice in the hope
and love that she represents. We unite with you to labor and pray for her
spiritual growth, that she may early become the subject of that inward grace
whose outward sign she has now received.
THE SACRAMENT OF COMMUNION
(No matter to what faith tradition you belong, you are invited to join us at
the table. We use grape juice for communion services at Plymouth Church.)
INVITATION
Minister: This is the joyful feast of the people of God. Men and
women and children will come from the east and west,
from the north and south, to sit at table in God’s house.
Congregation: See how good and pleasant it is when people dwell in
unity.
Minister: At this table we are invited to share in the feast of God’s
presence, celebrating here and now all that is meant by
being alive.
Congregation: Here we remember that God’s Spirit moves in and
through all time, in every age, in every corner of the
earth, calling people to renew their hope and their joy.
UNISON PRAYER
O God, together with your people around the earth, we praise you and
we give thanks for the gifts of your hand. You have blessed us with a
bountiful planet; teach us the deep wisdom of generosity and sharing. You
have blessed us with your patience and understanding when we fail to be
our best selves; show us how to let forgiveness soften our own hard
approach to those who wrong us. You bless us into your loving arms, which
embrace every human being; give us grace to come to the table with
openness for all with whom we share this meal.
The brokenness of your body in communion, O God, reminds us of the
brokenness of our world. Through the power of love, let all brokenness be
mended. In the simple gifts of bread and cup, nourish our souls. In our
presence one to another, in this room and around the world, make us truly
one human family. We pray this in the name of Jesus, who bids us come to
the table. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE ELEMENTS
During the distribution of the elements communion hymntunes by Calvin
Hampton and Bryan Hesford will be heard, and the choir will sing Alan
We thank you, God, for these gifts of bread and cup, and we thank you
for the privilege of sharing this meal together. As we go into the world, we
pray that you will help us see every meal as sacred, every faithful gathering
as holy, every person as your beloved child. May we show forth Christ’s
care for the world in everything we do and say. Amen.
