Common Common shrew shrew ( (Sorex ( ( Sorex Sorex araneus araneus) araneus<br />
In the area, in contrast to the Netherlands, only one sort of<br />
Common shrew occurs, and that is the Common shrew (Sorex<br />
araneus). The Common shrew was captured with one<br />
specimen each time in the lines B2, E and G.<br />

Only once a Pygmy shrew was captured in line E.<br />

In the area the Common water shrew (Neomys fodiens) as well<br />
as Miller’s water shrew (N. anomalus) are present. In the field<br />
these two are very hard to keep apart. One of the two species<br />
of Water shrews was found 15 times in total. It was striking that<br />
on locations A, C and F both species seem to be present<br />
alongside each other. Unfortunately, during the checks it was<br />
not clear on what grounds a Water shrew was determinated as<br />
N. fodiens or N. anomalus. In at least one case it was ascribed<br />
to a tail length, that, according to the literature, was just in the<br />
overlapping zone between both species. This means that the<br />
determination of the Water shrews captured during the<br />
workshop is more or less with reservation. Checking on<br />
characteristics of the skull produced at least one Miller’s water<br />
shrew from line E and two affirmed individuals of Common<br />
water shrews from line B and F. Besides that a second definite<br />
Miller’s water shrew was come across in a pellet from the<br />
church of Zolna.<br />

The Lesser white-teethed shrew was only captured in line E. At<br />
this location two specimens were captured during one check.<br />
Red Red vole vole ( (Clethrionomys ( Clethrionomys glareolus glareolus) glareolus<br />
The Red vole was only captured in line B2. This species was<br />
captured three times here.<br />
Field Field vole vole ( (Microtus ( Microtus agrestis agrestis) agrestis<br />
The Field vole was captured in small numbers in three of nine<br />
lines of traps.<br />
Common Common vole vole ( (Microtus ( Microtus arvalis arvalis) arvalis<br />
The Common vole is, with 134 captures, the species that was<br />
most captured during the workshop. Common voles were<br />
present in five lines of traps. This species was especially very<br />
common in line E, where a Common vole was captured no<br />
less than 100 times.<br />

The Pine vole was captured in small numbers in four of the<br />
nine lines of traps.<br />
Yellow Yellow-necked Yellow necked mouse mouse ( (Apodemus ( Apodemus flavicollis flavicollis) flavicollis<br />
With 58 captures the Yellow-necked mouse is the species<br />
mostly captured besides the Common vole. Yellow-necked<br />
mice were present in six of the nine lines of traps. Probably a<br />
(small) part of the animals present were determinated wrongly<br />
as common Wood mouse (see there).<br />
