technique has become commonplace for<br />
rescue missions in the Alps due to its steep<br />
slopes with no landing zone for helicopters.<br />
The rescue was performed using the<br />
AS350 B3 Ecureuil operated by Fishtail<br />
Air (see inset) with Captain Daniel<br />
Aufdenblatten of Air Zermatt at the controls<br />
and the Swiss Mountain Guide Richard<br />
Lenner, who was deployed as a human<br />

• Based in Kathmandu, it is the<br />
principal helicopter operator in Nepal<br />
and occasionally performs missions<br />
in India and Bhutan.<br />
• Its fleet of five helicopters includes<br />
four <strong>Eurocopter</strong> models: two AS350<br />
B3s, one AS350 B2 and one AS350 B.<br />
• The company offers various<br />
helicopter services: tourist flights,<br />
mountain rescues, medical<br />
evacuation, VIP transport and<br />
expeditions, to name a few.<br />

of 4,000 meters. This was the first time this<br />
rescue method had been used in Nepal by<br />
the Fishtail aircraft, saving the lives of the<br />
three climbers.<br />
With this daring feat, the AS350 B3 has<br />
broken a new record: the world’s highestaltitude<br />
