Campus Tour
Experience the Eau Claire Advantage
www.uwec.edu/admissions

Welcome to Wisconsin’s most
beautiful campus!
We appreciate your interest in our campus. If you would like to schedule a
future guided tour, please visit: www.uwec.edu/admissions/visit or call us
at 715-836-5415. For questions contact us at admissions@uwec.edu or visitors
are welcome to stop by our Admissions Office, located in Schofield Hall
111, Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. You’re in Blugold country now!
1. Schofield Hall
The original campus building, constructed in 1916,
may look “old school” but the offices inside are all
about your future: Administration, Admissions, Financial
Aid, Multicultural Affairs, International Education,
Academic Advising, Career Services and more.
2. W.R. Davies Center
The new student union offers 170,000 square feet of
space for eating, meeting and relaxing. Inside are a
wide variety of eateries, Caribou Coffee, an organic
food store, University Bookstore, Blugold ID office,
University Service Center and, frequently, live music
in “The Cabin.”
FUN FaCT: This is where the Viennese Ball takes place every year — the largest of
its kind outside of Vienna.
3. Nursing Building
Tucked away behind W.R. Davies Center, at the edge
of a 200-acre nature area is the home of the undergraduate
and graduate nursing programs, as well
as the environmental public health program. Take a
walk there just for the health of it!
4. L.E. Phillips Science Hall
L.E. Phillips Science Hall houses the natural and
computer science programs, classrooms and labs, as
well as greenhouses, a bird museum and the area’s
only planetarium, with programs for the public. You’ll
recognize it by the big white “bubble” on the roof.
5. Schneider Social Science Hall
This is the home of the College of Business, the
departments of economics, political science and
sociology, Parking and Transportation Services and
the Honors Program, as well as the Cargill Center,
Hormel Foods Team Lab and other state-of-the art
resources for students.
6. Central Campus Mall
This is the place where you can hang out, have
a snack, play Frisbee or take a quick nap. Many
student-led events and informal live music performances
take place here — you never know what
fun you will happen upon!
FUN FaCT: The new Campus Mall will have an amphitheater to better
accommodate large-scale outdoor entertainment.
7. Zorn arena
One of the largest event facilities in the area, Zorn
Arena is where we cheer on the Blugold basketball
teams, take in world-class entertainment through
The Forum and Artists Series, attend major concerts
and witness that twice-a-year cap-tossing celebration
we call commencement.
8. Brewer Hall/Kjer Theatre
Connected to Zorn Arena is Brewer Hall, home to
many education and human sciences classes and
the beloved Kjer Theatre, one of four stages on
campus. You can remember how to pronounce it
because we “care” about the Kjer.
9. NEW in 2013 – Education Building
The new Education Building will not only house
classrooms and administrative offices but also
education studies, English, foreign languages and
special education. Services for Students with Disabilities
and the Office of Multicultural Affairs will
relocate here as well as the new Student Success
Center (providing writing, math and other academic
support) — making the Education Building a tremendous
resource for all students on campus.
10. Hibbard Humanities Hall
Here you’ll find the English, foreign languages, history,
communication and journalism, psychology,
mathematics, and philosophy and religious studies
departments. The first floor Communication and
Journalism Center gives students hands-on experience
in television, radio, newspaper and photography,
and is home to the award-winning student
newspaper, The Spectator, and WUEC-FM radio.
11. Footbridge
The Chippewa River footbridge is one of the most
iconic and scenic spots on campus. Stop midway
for a panoramic view of the river, Putnam Rock (also
called the “kissing rock”), and our famous hill to
upper campus. Imagine getting this view every day!
For us it never gets old. Let’s say it together now -
“Aaahhhh!”
FUN FaCT: “The Late Show” host David Letterman named our footbridge one of the
top 10 coldest places in the U.S.
12. Haas Fine arts Center
Across the footbridge is the Haas Fine Arts Center
on Water Street. This is a second home to music,
theatre and visual arts majors. You may even catch
a glimpse of the Blugold Marching Band — the largest
marching band among the nation’s Division III
schools — practicing on the lawn. Great spaces to
take in students’ work include the Foster Art Gallery,
Riverside Theatre and the concert halls: Gantner
and Phillips.
13. Human Sciences and Services
If you take the walking path along the river behind
Haas you will see the Human Sciences and Services
building on Water Street. This is the location of special
education, social work, and the communication
sciences and disorders departments as well as the
Center for Service-Learning.
FUN FaCT: An autism clinic is located here, one of many university outreach
programs giving students experience through services to the community.
14. McIntyre Library
Here are five stories of incredible resources, study
stations, computer labs and meeting rooms. You
can check out laptops and video cameras for
free here and you can even eat and drink in our
library! Like to multitask? On the third floor you
can exercise your body as well as your mind in the
fitness room. Be sure to visit the Grand Corridor for
resources related to current events on campus and
other reference exhibits.
FUN FaCT: The library keeps you perked up for finals week with free coffee!
15. Old Library
A hallway from McIntyre Library connects with Old
Library, home of our largest 24-hour computer lab,
the Academic Skills Center and Counseling Services.
Look for a scale model of campus in the first-floor
breezeway connecting Old Library to Schofield Hall.
16. Hilltop Center
The one-stop-shop for fun and food on upper campus
houses University Recreation and Sport Facilities,
the Bowling and Billiard Center and the Environmental
Adventure Center. The main dining facility on upper
campus offers a spectacular view. Hang out and
watch the big screen TVs, play trivia or board games
or just chill at Hilltop.
17. Towers Hall/Housing and
Residence Life Office
Next to Hilltop you’ll see Towers North and South,
our largest residence halls and home to “Towers
Field” — huge outdoor space for disc golf, volleyball,
hanging out and basking in the sun. You can
find the Housing and Residence Life office in Room
112 of Towers North. All residence halls include 24hour
computer labs, FREE wireless Internet, study
lounges, kitchens, laundry facilities and TV lounges.
18. McPhee Center/Olson addition
The McPhee Center/Olson Addition is the only
building on upper campus where academic classes
are held. The kinesiology and athletic training programs
are located here, along with gymnasiums, an
indoor swimming pool, the Strength and Performance
Center, racquetball and tennis courts, indoor
track, climbing wall, dance studio, gymnastics area
and wrestling room. Time to stretch out!
FUN FaCT: Bikes in the spin class are eco-friendly — they help generate electricity
for the building!
19. Crest Wellness Center
Located between Sutherland and Governors Halls
you’ll find Crest Wellness Center, which includes
Higherground (a food/snack area), Club Mercury
Dance Club, the Fitness Center, Student Health
Service and the, ahem, University Police, so behave.
