Taccoen.

Diederik Galle II, man-at-arms in service of Charles the
Bold, duke of Burgundy, died in 1453; married to Isabelle
van Utenhove, died 16 february 1472; both were buried
in the church of St. Peter in Ghent.

2. Jan Galle, Benedictine monk in Ghent.

new branches of the Galle family in Antwerp and Ghent
respectively. Philips Galle and his family were well
acquainted with die family of (the same?) Michiel Galle
in Antwerp: in 1600 Philips was present as godfadier at
the baptism of Michiels daughter Barbara, while Michiel
was godfather at the baptism of Philips' grandson Michiel
Galle II in 1607 (see appendix IB, no. I).
VXb.
Philips Galle I, engraver and print publisher, born in
Haarlem in 1537, died 11 March 1612. Married on 9 June
1569 to Catharina van Rollant - daughter of Dirk van
Reliant (died In Haarlem before May 1547, alderman in
1522-23,1532 and 1535,burgomaster in 1542) and jooste
vanTeylingen - born In Haarlem in 1536/37, died 4 June
1599. Both were buried in the Antwerp cathedral.

4. Catharina Galle L date of birth unknown, died
in 1623. Married the engraver and print publisher Karel
deMallery (31 July 1571 - c. 1635) in the Antwerp cathe­
dral on 10 January 1598 (witnesses Philips Galle and
Philips de Mallery, father of Karel). From this marriage at
least one son was born ~ Philips de Mallery the Younger
who continued to practice the art of engraving.
5. Philips Galle II, baptized in the Antwerp
cathedral on 30 May 1581 (godfather Christophe Plantin,
godmother Florentia Geeraerts). burled In the Antwerp
cathedral on 9 May 1604.

Justa (Josina) Galle,date ofbirth unknown, died after 1639.
Married the engraver and print publisher Adrlaen Collaert
in the Antwerp cathedral on 28 October 1586 (witness­
es Philips Galle and Johannes Collaert, brother? of
Adriaen)
From her marriage:
1. Catherina Collaert, baptized 19 April 1589
(godfather Abraham Ortels, godmother Catherina
Plantin, daughter of Christophe Planem),
2. Jan (Johannes) Collaert, baptized 1 May 1591
(godfather Michiel Galle I (see above), godmother Jeanne
Collaert); possibly the engraver known as Johannes
Collaert the Younger.
3. Philips Collaert I.baptized 15 May 1593 (god­
father Philips Galle, godmother Jacqueline Huys); proba­
bly died before 1608.
