Albert of Austria, Neustadt 1559 - Brussels 1621; arch­
duke of Austria, son of emperor Maximilian of Austria,
cardinal since 1577, appointed as viceroy of the Southern
Netherlands in 1596. With papal permission Albert lai­
cized in 1599 in order to marry Isabella Clara Eugenia,
daughter of Philip II, with whom he reigned the Southern
Netherlands together
