LAND USE ELEMENT<br />

Policy 1.9.6 In addition to the aforementioned, the following additional conditions<br />

shall apply to the proposed sites of the specific school types to ensure they are<br />

consistent with the local government’s comprehensive plan.<br />

(1) For elementary schools, special education facilities, and alternative education<br />

facilities, proposed school sites, shall have direct access to at least a minor<br />

collector road or as otherwise approved by the local government after<br />

determination of acceptable traffic impacts on adjacent roads of lesser<br />

classification.<br />

(2) For middle schools, the proposed site shall have direct access to at least a minor<br />

collector road or as otherwise approved by the local government after<br />

determination of acceptable traffic impacts on adjacent roads of lesser<br />

classification. Outdoor recreational facilities and similar support facilities shall be<br />

located and buffered on the proposed site to minimize impacts on the adjacent<br />

properties.<br />

(3) For high schools, the proposed location shall have direct access to at least a<br />

major collector road, or as otherwise approved by the local government after<br />

determination of acceptable traffic impacts on adjacent roads of lesser<br />

classification. Stadiums, outdoor recreational facilities and similar support<br />

facilities shall be located and buffered on the proposed site to minimize impacts<br />

on adjacent properties.<br />

Policy 1.9.7 Nothing herein shall preclude the School District and local<br />

government from developing alternative development standards based on mutually<br />

acceptable performance criteria, which would meet the intent of the provision listed<br />

above.<br />

GREENHOUSE GAS REDUCTION STRATEGIES<br />

Objective 2.0 Wellington shall address Paragraph (a) of subsection (6) of Section<br />

163.3177, Florida Statutes that requires the goals, objectives and policies of future land<br />

use plan elements: Through goals, objectives and policies of the Future Land Use<br />

Element, Wellington shall:<br />

(1) Discourage urban sprawl.<br />

(2) Incorporate energy efficient land use patterns accounting for existing and future<br />

power generation and transmission systems.<br />

(3) Incorporate greenhouse gases (GHG) reduction strategies.<br />
