Christopher Success Scholarship<br />

Eligible students must be enrolled full-time as<br />

undergraduates majoring in any area <strong>of</strong> study. Students<br />

must also show financial need and demonstrate<br />

academic merit with a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0. Preference<br />

given to graduates <strong>of</strong> a Hawai‘i Island high school.<br />

• Richard R. Taniguchi Scholarship<br />

Annual awards (amount and number <strong>of</strong> awards<br />

dependent on income from investments) for full time<br />

students majoring in Business. Some degree <strong>of</strong> financial<br />

need. Recipients are eligible for scholarship renewal up<br />

to four years so long as all criteria are met.<br />

• John & Mary Tolmie and James & Fulvia Bailey<br />

Endowed Scholarship<br />

Scholarships for full-time undergraduate students with<br />

financial need. Preference given to graduates <strong>of</strong> a<br />

Hawai'i high school. The number and amount <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

scholarships will be based on <strong>the</strong> availability <strong>of</strong> funds.<br />

• UH Hilo Alumni & Friends Scholarship<br />

Scholarships <strong>of</strong> up to $1,500 awarded annually to full<br />

or part-time undergraduate or graduate students who<br />

are immediate family members <strong>of</strong> UH Hilo alumni<br />

(or, in <strong>the</strong> case <strong>of</strong> graduate students, UH Hilo alumni<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves). Minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 2.5 for undergraduates<br />

and 3.0 for graduate students. Some degree <strong>of</strong> financial<br />

need.<br />

• UH Hilo Volunteer Service Award<br />

Two or more $500 awards given annually to continuing<br />

students who have contributed outstanding volunteer,<br />

non-compensated service which significantly benefits<br />

<strong>the</strong> University and/or community. Minimum 2.5<br />

cumulative GPA required.<br />

• Dr. Francis F.C. Wong Memorial Scholarship<br />

Four $750 scholarships awarded annually to Big Island<br />

high school graduates who have excelled as athletes.<br />

• Coach Jimmy Yagi Endowed Scholarship<br />

Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate and a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Vulcans Men’s Basketball Team. Student<br />

must have a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.5 and completed at<br />

least 30 credits at <strong>the</strong> University <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i at Hilo in<br />

<strong>the</strong> preceding academic year.<br />

• James S. and Kameko Yagi/Sadao and Bessie Y.<br />

Nishida Scholarship<br />

Students must be full-time undergraduates in any<br />

area <strong>of</strong> study who have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Must<br />

show financial need and preference shall be given to<br />

graduates <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i Island high schools.<br />

• Hiromu and Helen Yamanaka Scholarship<br />

Recipients must be full-time or part-time, undergraduate<br />

students majoring in any area <strong>of</strong> study, with a<br />

cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 or above and some financial<br />

need. Preference shall be given to graduates <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i<br />

Island high schools.<br />

• Michio Yoshimura Memorial Art Scholarship<br />

$300 scholarship awarded annually to a graduate<br />

<strong>of</strong> a Big Island High School. Preference given to <strong>the</strong><br />

graduating seniors from Waiakea and Hilo High<br />

Schools. Recipient must be admitted as an Art Major<br />

at UH Hilo. This award may be renewable but students<br />

must apply each year.<br />

• Lee Ting You Family <strong>of</strong> Kohala Success<br />

Scholarship<br />

Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate<br />

majoring in any area <strong>of</strong> Natural Sciences and show<br />

financial need. The student must be a first generation<br />

college student and a graduate <strong>of</strong> a small rural public<br />

high school on <strong>the</strong> Big Island, with first preference given<br />

to a graduate <strong>of</strong> Kohala High School.<br />

The following scholarships which only pertains to<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Pharmacy students, have also been<br />

incorporated into <strong>the</strong> single online application, at<br />

• CVS/Caremark Scholarship<br />

Scholarships support pharmacy students in good<br />

academic standing who are interested in practicing<br />

pharmacy in a retail setting.<br />

• Good Neighbor Pharmacy Scholarship<br />

Awarded on a combination <strong>of</strong> academic merit and<br />

financial need, this scholarship benefits a pharmacy<br />

student who intends to practice in an independent<br />

community pharmacy environment and hopes to own<br />

his or her own store.<br />

• Haga Family Endowed Scholarship<br />

Must be full-time pr<strong>of</strong>essional student at <strong>the</strong> College<br />

<strong>of</strong> Pharmacy and meet a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> a 3.0 or<br />

above and show financial need. Preference is given to<br />

graduates <strong>of</strong> Big Island high schools.
