Students must also show financial need and demonstrate academic merit with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference given to graduates of a Hawai‘i Island high school. • Richard R. Taniguchi Scholarship Annual awards (amount and number of awards dependent on income from investments) for full time students majoring in Business. Some degree of financial need. Recipients are eligible for scholarship renewal up to four years so long as all criteria are met. • John & Mary Tolmie and James & Fulvia Bailey Endowed Scholarship Scholarships for full-time undergraduate students with financial need. Preference given to graduates of a Hawai'i high school. The number and amount of the scholarships will be based on the availability of funds. • UH Hilo Alumni & Friends Scholarship Scholarships of up to $1,500 awarded annually to full or part-time undergraduate or graduate students who are immediate family members of UH Hilo alumni (or, in the case of graduate students, UH Hilo alumni themselves). Minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduate students. Some degree of financial need. • UH Hilo Volunteer Service Award Two or more $500 awards given annually to continuing students who have contributed outstanding volunteer, non-compensated service which significantly benefits the University and/or community. Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA required. • Dr. Francis F.C. Wong Memorial Scholarship Four $750 scholarships awarded annually to Big Island high school graduates who have excelled as athletes. • Coach Jimmy Yagi Endowed Scholarship Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate and a member of the Vulcans Men’s Basketball Team. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and completed at least 30 credits at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo in the preceding academic year. 6 • James S. and Kameko Yagi/Sadao and Bessie Y. Nishida Scholarship Students must be full-time undergraduates in any area of study who have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Must show financial need and preference shall be given to graduates of Hawai‘i Island high schools. • Hiromu and Helen Yamanaka Scholarship Recipients must be full-time or part-time, undergraduate students majoring in any area of study, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and some financial need. Preference shall be given to graduates of Hawai‘i Island high schools. • Michio Yoshimura Memorial Art Scholarship $300 scholarship awarded annually to a graduate of a Big Island High School. Preference given to the graduating seniors from Waiakea and Hilo High Schools. Recipient must be admitted as an Art Major at UH Hilo. This award may be renewable but students must apply each year. • Lee Ting You Family of Kohala Success Scholarship Recipient must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate majoring in any area of Natural Sciences and show financial need. The student must be a first generation college student and a graduate of a small rural public high school on the Big Island, with first preference given to a graduate of Kohala High School. The following scholarships which only pertains to College of Pharmacy students, have also been incorporated into the single online application, at https://uhhhawaii.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com • CVS/Caremark Scholarship Scholarships support pharmacy students in good academic standing who are interested in practicing pharmacy in a retail setting. • Good Neighbor Pharmacy Scholarship Awarded on a combination of academic merit and financial need, this scholarship benefits a pharmacy student who intends to practice in an independent community pharmacy environment and hopes to own his or her own store. • Haga Family Endowed Scholarship Must be full-time professional student at the College of Pharmacy and meet a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 or above and show financial need. Preference is given to graduates of Big Island high schools.
• JM Long Foundation Pharmacy Scholarship This scholarship benefits pharmacy students, preferably in their 2nd or 3rd year of study, who are planning to practice pharmacy in a retail community setting. Combination of financial need and academic merit. • College of Pharmacy Inaugural Class of 2011 Scholarship Must be enrolled in the College of Pharmacy in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of study and achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA. Must demonstrate leadership and community service that promotes the UH Hilo College of Pharmacy. • Grace Mizuko Miyawaki Scholarship Must be enrolled full-time in the College of Pharmacy and demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be given to a graduate of a high school in the state of Hawai‘i. • National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship The annual scholarship benefits pharmacy students who demonstrate an interest in a career in community pharmacy. • Safeway Scholarship Must be enrolled in the College of Pharmacy, meet a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate an intereset in working in a retail pharmacy setting. • Walgreens Diversity Scholarship Benefits a pharmacy student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 who has made efforts to raise awareness or to educate others regarding diversity in the practice of pharmacy. • Walmart Scholarship Supports a pharmacy student with a minimum 3.0 GPA, who demonstrates leadership ability and financial need, and has a strong desire to enter community pharmacy practice. 7 College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resouce Management Scholarship: Contact the Dean’s Office at 974-7393 for more information and application forms for the following scholarship. • Beatrice Campbell Beckley/Hoowaiwai Farms Scholarship Scholarship(s) awarded annually to College of Agriculture students who are graduates of Big Island high schools. • Dr. Frederick K. T. Tom Memorial Scholarship $500 scholarship awarded annually to a graduating Hawai‘i Island High School senior or entering junior or entering senior in the College of Agriculture. Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA required. Renewable, but must reapply the following year. The following four music scholarships are incorporated into a single application which may be obtained by contacting the Performing Arts Department or the UH Hilo Financial Aid Office: • Gloriana Adap Memorial Scholarship for Singers $100 to $200 scholarships awarded annually to students enrolled or planning to enroll in music studies. Recipients must maintain a 2.5 in music courses, 2.0 overall, and participate in all UH Hilo choral ensemble. Interview and audition required. • Richard Adap Memorial Scholarship for Singers $250 to $500 scholarships awarded annually to students enrolled or planning to enroll in music studies. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.5 in music courses, 2.0 overall, and participate in all UH Hilo choral ensembles. Interview and audition required. • Paul Gouglides Memorial Grant for Pianists An award of an amount to be determined by the Music Scholarship Committee given to a serious piano student. Recipient must be a full-time student, maintain a GPA of 3.0 in music courses and 2.5 overall, participate in a UH Hilo music ensemble. Interview and audition required.
