UHH. Students must show academic merit as<br />
demonstrated by progress towards completion <strong>of</strong><br />
degree, statement relating degree being sought to<br />
future career plans, past community services, and some<br />
financial need.<br />
• Sharon Peterson Scholarship<br />
Annual scholarship <strong>of</strong> $1,000 awarded to a student<br />
enrolled full-time in <strong>the</strong> Teacher Education Program.<br />
Preference will be given to a student who has a record<br />
<strong>of</strong> volunteer service as an inspirational coach or teacher.<br />

UH Hilo Performing Arts Scholarship<br />
For students majoring in Performing Arts at UH Hilo.<br />
Recipients must have at least junior standing and must<br />
meet a minimum 2.0 GPA.<br />
UH Hilo Pride Legacy Scholarship<br />
Recipients must be active members <strong>of</strong> Pride Hilo, a UH<br />
Hilo Registered Independent Student Organization.<br />
Undergraduate students must have completed at least<br />
24 credit hours. Graduate students may also apply.<br />
Students must have financial need and a minimum 3.0<br />
GPA. One $500 scholarship will be awarded annually.<br />
• Que-Andrada Foundation Endowed Excellence<br />
Scholarship<br />
Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students<br />
who can demonstrate participation in activities<br />
related to Filipino culture, including volunteering<br />
for organizations serving <strong>the</strong> Filipino community or<br />
enrolling in programs or educational <strong>of</strong>ferings related<br />
to Filipino culture. Additional requirements include a<br />
cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.5 or above and some financial<br />
need.<br />
• Rotary Club <strong>of</strong> Hilo Scholarship Fund<br />
Scholarship <strong>of</strong> $1,500 awarded annually to fulltime<br />
students enrolled in <strong>the</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Business<br />
and Economics. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Some degree <strong>of</strong><br />
financial need. Demonstrate volunteer service in <strong>the</strong><br />
community.<br />
• Sangam Scholarship<br />
One or more scholarships awarded annually. Recipients<br />
must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrate financial<br />
need and be a graduate <strong>of</strong> a Hawai'i high school and/or<br />
a resident <strong>of</strong> Hawai'i for at least five years.<br />
• Hiroo Sato Scholarship<br />
Scholarships up to $1,000 awarded to students with<br />
financial need. Minimum 3.0 GPA for entering students,<br />
and 2.7 GPA for continuing students.<br />
• Marie E. Schleichert Annual College <strong>of</strong><br />
Agriculture Scholarship<br />
$100 scholarships awarded annually to College <strong>of</strong><br />
Agriculture students. Recipients must be a resident <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Island <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i and have a desire to work in forestry<br />
or some phase <strong>of</strong> agriculture or aquaculture, with an<br />
intent to save <strong>the</strong> land and seas in and around Hawai‘i.<br />
(Horticulture is excluded.) Preference given to applicants<br />
<strong>of</strong> Hawai‘ian Ancestry or Native Americans.<br />
• Lawrence Silva Memorial Excellence Scholarship<br />
Eligible students must be full-time undergraduate or<br />
graduate students at <strong>the</strong> Ka Haka `Ula O Ke`elikolani<br />
College <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘ian Language and have a 3.5 GPA or<br />
above. Must be able to show financial need.<br />
• G.Y. Sonomura Endowed Excellence Scholarship<br />
Scholarship for a single parent enrolled full time or part<br />
time in an undergraduate or graduate program in any<br />
area <strong>of</strong> study. GPA must be 3.5 or higher; some degree<br />
<strong>of</strong> financial need. Written essay required describing<br />
educational goals and answering <strong>the</strong> question “What are<br />
<strong>the</strong> greatest hurdles faced in order to attain this goal?”<br />
• G.Y. Sonomura Endowed Excellence Scholarship for<br />
Japanese Studies<br />
Awarded annually to Japanese Studies majors with some<br />
degree <strong>of</strong> financial need and a cumulative GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.5 or<br />
better.<br />

Walter and Betty Steiger Physics & Astronomy<br />
Scholarship<br />
This scholarship supports students majoring in physics<br />
or astronomy who demonstrate a combination <strong>of</strong> merit<br />
and financial need. Student must have a minimum 3.0<br />
GPA and be a graduate <strong>of</strong> a Hawai‘i high school.<br />
• Student Opportunity Fund<br />
Four scholarship awards (usually around $2000 each)<br />
for students in music, drama and painting. Recipients<br />
must be a Hawai‘i high school graduate, minimum 3.0<br />
GPA and have financial need. Priority given to students<br />
<strong>of</strong> Asian-Pacific Island ancestry.<br />
• Subaru Telescope Success Scholarship<br />
Recipient must be enrolled full-time as an<br />
undergraduate majoring in Physics or Astronomy and<br />
have a minimum high school GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.5 as an entering<br />
freshman. Student must also show some degree <strong>of</strong><br />
financial need and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.<br />
• R. Ben Tsukazaki Memorial Endowed Scholarship<br />
Recipients must be juniors or seniors majoring in<br />
English with an emphasis on creative writing, presenting<br />
a minimum GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.0 and some financial need.<br />
Applicants must submit a portfolio <strong>of</strong> original prose and/<br />
or poetry and a 2-3 page reflective essay (see English<br />
Department for more information).<br />
• Taketa, Iwata, Hara Accounting Scholarship<br />
Students must be full-time undergraduates majoring in<br />
Accounting in <strong>the</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Business and Economics
