The following scholarships have been incorporated into a single scholarship application. The application is available online at: https://uhhhawaii.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com The annual application deadline is March 1. • • • • • • Masami and Mae M. Aito Excellence Scholarship Students must be full-time undergraduates enrolled in the College of Business and Economics and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above. Recipients must also be graduates of a Big Island high school. George S. Alves Memorial Scholarship Students must be full-time or part-time undergraduates in the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management, meet a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have some degree of financial need. Aoyagi Family Endowed Scholarship Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students majoring in business or economics. Students must also be graduates of a Hawai‘i Island high school, have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and some degree of financial need. Amer Ari Men’s Golf Success Scholarship Student recipient must be a full-time undergraduate and a member of the Vulcans Men’s Golf Team and show financial need. James and Grace Arakaki Endowed Excellence Scholarship Scholarship supports a veteran, honorably discharged from active U.S. military service or the son/daughter of a veteran, honorably discharged from active U.S. military service. Recipient must be a full-time undergraduate enrolled in the College of Business and Economics, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Recipient must be a graduate of a public high school in the state of Hawai‘i, preferably on the Big Island. Frederic Duclos Barstow Scholarship Scholarships for full-time undergraduate students of American Samoan ancestry who are pursuing a degree that requires a math and/or science major. Students must be entering their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year at UH Hilo. Recipients must have financial need and at least a 2.0 GPA. The number and amount of the scholarships will be based on the availability of funds. 2 • Ruth E. Black Scholarship Scholarships of $200 or more awarded to students who demonstrate the potential for academic growth and achievement. First priority for scholarships shall be given to the sons and daughters of engineers, contractors and construction workers. Second priority shall be given to students pursuing constructionrelated fields of study: engineering, pre- engineering, architecture, drafting, carpentry, construction trades, etc. Third priority shall be given to all other well-qualified students. Minimum 3.0 GPA. • William Bonk Scholarship for Bhutan Students For students from Bhutan pursuing a degree at UH Hilo in the social or natural sciences, demonstrating some financial need and a minimum GPA of 2.85. • Dr. John G. Chan Endowed Excellence Scholarship in Biology Recipients must be full-time or part-time, undergraduate students who have declared a major in biology. Preference shall be given to a senior who has selfidentified an intent to continue on to graduate school. Additional requirements include a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above and some financial need. • • Larry Child Scholarship $1,500 or more awarded annually. Recipients must be Hawai‘i residents. Four-year renewable scholarship but must apply each year. Paul Mark Clark/Carl Moon Scholarship Scholarship provided to full-time students majoring in the Performing Arts. Students must have financial need and minimum 3.20 GPA. The number and amount of the scholarships will be based on availability of funds. • Criminal Justice Scholarship Annual awards for Hawai‘i residents interested in making community service contributions on the Island of Hawai‘i to needy individuals or charitable organizations or agencies that serve the needy. Amount of awards dependent on income from investments. • Howard and Yoneko Droste Endowed Scholarship in Art Students must be full-time juniors or seniors majoring in Art, with a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need. • Alec and Kay Keith Scholarship Recipients must have graduated from a Hawai'i high school (with preference given to Big Island high schools) or be citizens of the U.S. affiliated Pacific Island States, have financial need, and demonstrate academic merit. Incoming freshman should have a minimum 3.00 high
• • school GPA. Continuing and transfer students should have a minimum 2.70 college GPA. To be considered, complete the FAFSA by March 1. Dodo Family Endowed Excellence Scholarship Recipients must be full-time or part-time undergraduates enrolled in any area of study, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Some financial need is required. Faliuwseuw Endowed Scholarship This scholarship provides support to students from Fais Island, Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Recipients must be full-time citizens of the Federated States of Micronesia who were born and raised on Fais Island. Students must have financial need and a minimum 2.5 GPA. The amount of the scholarships will be based on the availability of funds. • James W. & Eleanor B. Frierson Endowed Scholarship Fund Enrolled either full-time or part-time. A written statement on student's background and how an English major or concentration will help to fulfill his/her career aspirations. Some degree of financial need. Preference will be given to students who come from a disadvantaged background. • Geography Founders Scholarship Supports full-time undergraduate students of sophomore standing or above majoring in geography. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference shall be given to graduates of high schools in the state of Hawai‘i. • UHH Gersting Scholarship Must be enrolled full-time as undergraduates enrolled in the Computer Science Department. Students must demonstrate an active role in promoting, sharing, and furthering the field of computer science on the Big Island of Hawai‘i that may include voluntary computer services or tutoring. • Hawai‘i Educational Opportunity Fund One or more scholarships awarded annually to full or part-time undergraduate students, with preference given to residents of the Big Island. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and some degree of financial need. • Hawai‘i Florists & Shippers Association Endowed Scholarship Fund Hawai‘i residents enrolled full-time with the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management with an emphasis in floriculture and/or ornamental production. Minimum 3.0 GPA required 3 with some degree of financial need. First year students are not eligible to apply. • Hawai‘i Veteran’s Memorial Fund $350 or more scholarships awarded annually to UH Hilo students with minimum cumulative GPAs of 2.5 for Freshmen/Sophomores and 2.75 for Juniors/Seniors. Must be a Hawai‘i resident. Renewable but must apply annually. • Charles R. Hemenway Scholarship Scholarships ranging from $200 to $2000 are awarded each year. Recipients must be Hawai‘i residents with verifiable Community/School service activities. Four-year renewable but must apply annually. • Hilo High School Class of 1940 Scholarship One or more $750 scholarships awarded annually to a graduating senior from Hilo High School. • • IFSA Global Scholarship This scholarship supports first generation college students, preferably from Hawai‘i, who are participating in a study abroad program. Eligible students must achieve a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate some degree of financial need. Daniel K. Inouye Endowed Scholarship in Astronomy The scholarship supports a high GPA-achieving UH Hilo senior majoring in Astronomy, with an expressed desire to pursue a career in the field of Astronomy. Preference is given to graduates of a high school in the state of Hawai‘i. • Frank T. Inouye Scholarship Fund Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1000 are awarded annually to students enrolled or planning to enroll in History, Political Science and Economics. Minimum 3.0 GPA and have some degree of financial need. • Ronald S. Jitchaku Memorial Scholarship Awards in the amount of annual tuition costs awarded to full-time students enrolled in the UH Hilo Liberal Studies/Administration of Justice Program. Recipients must be graduates of a high school in the state of Hawai‘i. The number and amount of scholarships will be based on the availability of funds. Minimum 2.5 GPA. • Phyllis Kahaney Humanities Award $300 awarded annually to a Humanities major, preference given to students age 27 or above and enrolled at least half-time. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
