Building strong kids, strong <strong>families</strong> and<br />

strong <strong>communities</strong><br />

<strong>YMCA</strong> <strong>Calgary</strong> has been a part of the <strong>Calgary</strong> community for<br />

more than 108 years. <strong>We</strong> thank you for choosing to <strong>build</strong> a stronger<br />

community with us. Some of our 2009 highlights include:<br />

• Breaking ground on our new <strong>YMCA</strong> in northeast <strong>Calgary</strong>.<br />

This full-service <strong>YMCA</strong> facility is scheduled to open late<br />

summer/early fall 2011 and will be located in the Genesis<br />

Centre of Community <strong>We</strong>llness. As well as the <strong>YMCA</strong>, there<br />

will be a branch of the <strong>Calgary</strong> Public Library, soccer fields<br />

and community recreational and human services spaces.<br />

• Construction of the <strong>YMCA</strong> facility continues in the new<br />

Alberta Health Services South Health Campus. This is<br />

scheduled to open late 2011 or early 2012. This is an<br />

exciting opportunity to engage patients, staff, physicians<br />

and citizens to take an active part in their own health and<br />

well-being. This new model will further enable the <strong>YMCA</strong><br />

to assist people to be healthy in spirit, mind and body.<br />

• More than $834,000 was raised in our Annual Strong Kids<br />

Campaign. This funding ensures that no child or youth is<br />

denied a <strong>YMCA</strong> experience due to limited financial means.<br />

The amazing support from our donors enabled 12,624<br />

<strong>YMCA</strong> experiences for children and youth in our<br />

community; experiences that allowed them to learn new<br />

skills, develop self-confidence and just have fun and be kids.<br />

• Through the Community <strong>YMCA</strong> branch, hundreds of<br />

children and youth are safe, healthy and active each day<br />

after school. These outreach programs continue to be<br />

supported by generous donors and take place at a variety<br />

of school and community locations.<br />

<strong>We</strong> want to thank all of our donors, members, volunteers,<br />

staff and community partners who helped make these and<br />

other <strong>YMCA</strong> initiatives such a success.<br />

<strong>We</strong> hope you enjoy the following <strong>YMCA</strong> stories—stories we<br />

believe highlight our focus on holistic health and wellness,<br />

our commitment to being a strong and viable charity and our<br />

commitment to <strong>build</strong>ing community.<br />
