Building strong kids, strong families and
strong communities
YMCA Calgary has been a part of the Calgary community for
more than 108 years. We thank you for choosing to build a stronger
community with us. Some of our 2009 highlights include:
• Breaking ground on our new YMCA in northeast Calgary.
This full-service YMCA facility is scheduled to open late
summer/early fall 2011 and will be located in the Genesis
Centre of Community Wellness. As well as the YMCA, there
will be a branch of the Calgary Public Library, soccer fields
and community recreational and human services spaces.
• Construction of the YMCA facility continues in the new
Alberta Health Services South Health Campus. This is
scheduled to open late 2011 or early 2012. This is an
exciting opportunity to engage patients, staff, physicians
and citizens to take an active part in their own health and
well-being. This new model will further enable the YMCA
to assist people to be healthy in spirit, mind and body.
• More than $834,000 was raised in our Annual Strong Kids
Campaign. This funding ensures that no child or youth is
denied a YMCA experience due to limited financial means.
The amazing support from our donors enabled 12,624
YMCA experiences for children and youth in our
community; experiences that allowed them to learn new
skills, develop self-confidence and just have fun and be kids.
• Through the Community YMCA branch, hundreds of
children and youth are safe, healthy and active each day
after school. These outreach programs continue to be
supported by generous donors and take place at a variety
of school and community locations.
We want to thank all of our donors, members, volunteers,
staff and community partners who helped make these and
other YMCA initiatives such a success.
We hope you enjoy the following YMCA stories—stories we
believe highlight our focus on holistic health and wellness,
our commitment to being a strong and viable charity and our
commitment to building community.
