613 (1997)). • I performed the primary analysis and was an author <strong>of</strong> the paper “Comparison <strong>of</strong> ZEUS Data with Standard Model Predictions for e + p → e + X Scattering at High x and Q 2 ” (Z. Phys. C74, 207 (1997)). • Since 1999, I have been developing an analysis to search for R-parity violating supersymmetry. In March <strong>of</strong> 1999, I gave a talk on an early version <strong>of</strong> the analysis at the Higgs and Supersymmetry conference (Gainsville, Florida) and in June <strong>of</strong> 2000, I gave a talk on an improved version <strong>of</strong> the analysis at the SUSY2K conference at CERN. A paper on the analysis was submitted to the Osaka conference (paper no. 456). • I performed the statistical analysis for an excited fermion search which included a full treatment <strong>of</strong> the natural width (hep-ex/0109018). The paper will appear in Physics Letters B. • I performed the primary analysis <strong>of</strong> multi-electron states for the paper “Study <strong>of</strong> multi-lepton production with the ZEUS detector at HERA” which was submitted to the ICHEP 2002 conference (Amsterdam). The analysis is being finalized for publication. physics coordinator From 9/93 to 9/96 I was the deputy coordinator and from 9/96 to 9/97, I was the coordinator <strong>of</strong> the High Q 2 /Exotic Physics Group. From 9/2000 to 9/2002, I was a coordinator <strong>of</strong> the Exotic physics group. In addition to reviewing and supervising physics analyses within the group, I have been strongly involved in writing and editing papers based on these analyses. ZEUS analysis coordinator Since 10/2002 I have been the ZEUS analysis coordinator. Most ZEUS physics analysis is now performed in a standard analysis framework. I am responsible for maintaining the analysis code, integrating new analysis code, and providing a user-friendly and welldocumented environment. This job involves interaction with all ZEUS physics groups. reconstruction s<strong>of</strong>tware • I wrote and have maintained the <strong>of</strong>fline data selection for the High Q 2 /Exotic Physics group. • I developed the electron identification algorithm used by ZEUS for high-Q 2 Neutral Current cross section analyses and also for exotic searches. The algorithm is based on a multi-dimensional likelihood which uses information from the calorimeter and the tracking detector. • I developed optimization s<strong>of</strong>tware which used Neutral Current data to determine
the following properties <strong>of</strong> the barrel calorimeter: the electromagnetic energy scale; the position; the orientation; parameters describing the spatial and angular nonuniformity <strong>of</strong> the calorimeter response. I provided ZEUS with code to calculate non-uniformity and energy scale corrections for electrons in the barrel calorimeter, resulting in improved energy resolution. The optimization procedure also determined the momentum resolution <strong>of</strong> the Central Tracking Detector for isolated tracks. • I determined the response <strong>of</strong> the calorimeter to hadronic jets and the dependence on jet energy, angle, and electromagnetic fraction. trigger • I designed trigger level cuts on calorimeter timing used to reject non-ep backgrounds. I developed and implemented trigger algorithms for high Q 2 charged current and neutral current scattering and also for other high Et processes. I have been active in maintenance and development <strong>of</strong> these triggers. • ZEUS is commissioning a new tracking trigger using the Central Tracking Detector and the Micro-Vertex Detector. I wrote an interface between this trigger and the geometry data base which describes the detector. supervision <strong>of</strong> students Both as a member <strong>of</strong> the Columbia group, and as a coordinator <strong>of</strong> the High Q 2 /Exotic physics group, I have worked extensively with Ph.D. students who have written thesis on high Q 2 charged current and neutral current cross sections, as well as searches for leptoquarks, lepton flavor violation, excited fermions, supersymmetry, and heavy neutrinos. shift leader Since 1996 I have been a shift leader during all data taking periods except for 1998. referee I have refereed papers from major collider experiments for Physical Review Letters, Physical Review D, and European Journal <strong>of</strong> Physics C. computer system manager Since 2001, I have been the compter system manager for the U.S. ZEUS group. I’m responsible for maintaing about 15 Linux PCs including installation <strong>of</strong> hardware and s<strong>of</strong>tware, ordering new equipment.
