DCR searches can be refined using a series of roles • “Roles” in DWPI describe the function of a compound in the patent, e.g. – Compound is prepared, purified or part of a mixture – Compound is claimed or from the examples • DCR compounds can have two types of roles assigned – 2-3-letter codes from the IT-field (DCR Roles) – Single-letter codes from the chemical code field CMC (DCN Roles) • Both types of roles can be linked to DCR numbers via the (T)-proximity operator 39
