38 Antonio Villella Painter and sculptor Antonio is inspired and influenced by the inherent beauty of the natural environment, its colours, shapes, texture and changing moods. His process follows instinct rather than consciously trying to pre-determine an outcome. Vibrancy, spontaneity and an atmosphere of mystery is essential. In painting Antonio expresses the landscape in an intuitive rather than literal manner, using acrylic, watercolour and gouache, interpreting the rhythm and patterns of nature. His drawings are an exploration of line and texture in pen and ink, graphite and pastels while his sculptures cover a variety of subjects from figurative to abstract, working mainly in wood. Alistair Whyte Ceramic artist Alistair believes that as he matures as an artist, his priorities change. There is no longer a need to prove himself or gain many new skills. It is more of a question of polishing existing skills, working within the bounds of his abilities, finding new challenges, keeping an open mind, teaching other artists and realising his limitations. While Alistair is known as a maker of fine porcelain, visitors will discover a diversity that few other potters display. He feels that as part of his Japanese training and a different mindset, he has acquired diversity, flexibility and a better understanding of a different journey.
