Internal fi re doors are often specifi ed in new builds, loft conversions, shared 

occupancy buildings and between a house and an integral garage. 

Most of the time a fi re door is just like any other door. But if a fi re breaks out, it 

performs a vital and specifi c task by burning at a particular rate to act as a barrier 

to hold back the spread of the blaze. All our Fire doors are subject to rigorous 

regulation, testing and certifi cation to meet both UK and EU requirements to 

ensure that in the event of a fi re, it does what it is supposed to do. 

All Wickes Fire Doors are certifi ed to 30 minutes when fi tted in accordance with the 

instructions provided with each door. Intumescent materials play a major role in restricting 

fi re and smoke spreading, reducing incidences of death and injury and reducing property 

damage. You must therefore, install an Intumescent Strip (208-572) to seal your door frame. 

With any Fire Door you should consider the hardware you use. As well as Intumescent 

Strips, you may also need to consider a fi re-rated closer and hinges depending on the 

circumstances. Please refer to your architect or local building control body for full details 

before commencing work.

Logos explained 

Thermal Effi ciency – Part L Part L of the Building 

Regulations relating to thermal effi ciency. The lower 

the “U-Value” the more effi cient the material. U-Values 

are given to a door, frame and weather seals together as a 

complete unit. In most cases a U-Value of less than 1.8 W/ 

m²K will be required for a “Part L” project. Ask your architect 

or local building control body for full details before 

commencing work. 

Low E Glass In order to meet Regulations some of our Part 

L doors are glazed with low emissivity (Low E) glass. This is 

coated to help maximise thermal effi ciency. Due to the nature 

of the advanced coating you may notice a haze or hint to the 

glass from certain angles and in certain lighting conditions. 

Mobility Access – Part M Part M of the Building 

Regulations relating to access to and use of 

buildings, requires lower cills and wider doors. 

Paint & Peel Doors with this symbol have a protective 

fi lm applied to the glass at the factory which allows 

you the paint the doors as required and then remove 

the fi lm from the glass afterwards. 

Double Glazed Doors Doors with this symbol are 

supplied with Toughened Double Glazed Units. 

Triple Glazed Doors Doors with this symbol are 

supplied with Toughened Triple Glazed Units.
