Engensa’s SolarLoan Plus expands consumer access to cost-efficient
solar energy
New 15-years loan option boosts solar industry by further reducing reliance on
government involvement
3 December, 2012 – London – Engensa, the UK’s leading home energy company, today
announces the launch of SolarLoan Plus, an expansion of its successful loan programme for
solar PV systems.
A doubling of the uptake of the existing SolarLoan programme over the last six months has
led to Engensa expanding its SolarLoan scheme with features including a new 15-year loan
option and a broader choice of solar panels. In addition, SolarLoan Plus features a threemonth
payment holiday until February 2013. This confirms SolarLoan Plus as the easiest and
most affordable way for homeowners to generate their own electricity and cash from home
solar panels, without making an upfront investment.
According to Engensa, whilst the government remains verbally committed to enabling
alternative, cost-efficient energy models for householders, its funding cuts and current
battles with the EU mean that it is discouraging consumers from enjoying the practical
benefits of solar energy. Private finance is now filling the gap and demonstrating that solar
will be a widespread success even with government policy changes.
Engensa CEO, Toby Darbyshire, says: “In the face of regular, sharp rises in energy prices and
poor returns from conventional investments, this really is the time for solar. Consumers are
recognising the cost-efficiencies and financial gains from solar and our SolarLoan finance
option has shown that a lack of government funding will not deter them from investing.
Once again, in the face of government indecision, the commercial sector steps into the
breach to drive forward a practical concept, this time to help householders manage their
energy bills effectively.”
Young families are at the forefront of the SolarLoan uptake, as are the baby boomers; both
groups are looking for ways to control their energy costs and maintain their standards of
living.
Ben Dryer from Salisbury says: “Solar panels are no longer beyond the reach of most home
owners. With the opportunity to install solar with no upfront costs using Engensa’s
SolarLoan, we jumped at the chance and after one month our direct debit dropped by 18%.
Not only are the financial benefits really helping my family, but it was also such a painless
process when Engensa installed the solar panels on our roof.”
SolarLoan Plus has all the original financial benefits of SolarLoan, as well as some added
features.

SolarLoan Plus added benefits
• New 15-year loan option in addition to the ten-year loan
• Broader range of solar panels now available, expanding the bespoke solar panel
configuration choice for consumers
Advantages still include
• Zero upfront payment – homeowners have a solar PV system fitted at their home
for free – no payment whatsoever is required at installation
• Full ownership – the PV system, once installed with a SolarLoan, is the homeowner’s
property outright, unlike traditional ‘Rent-a-Roof’ or ‘Free Solar’ schemes
• Earn money from Day One – even whilst paying off the SolarLoan most families will
see very attractive savings and after the SolarLoan has been paid off, the
homeowner then benefits from every penny of the energy bill savings
o At this point homeowners can expect to earn around £1,500 per year rising to
£2,200 in year 25 as grid electricity prices continue to rise inexorably
o Over a 20 year period, homeowners can see returns of up to £18,000 on a
solar array installed for free with a SolarLoan. (see ‘Notes to Editors’ below –
need to include these)
Darbyshire adds: “We may already be in the grip of Winter, however as you work through
your finances for 2013 this is the perfect time to re-analyse the benefits of solar and cutting
your energy bills. Not only can SolarLoan offer homeowners all the benefits of a highly
attractive financial investment without any upfront cost, it reduces the impact of inevitably
rising energy costs and boosts the home’s value.”
