3 Safety Instructions<br />

3.1 Important Notes Regarding Operation<br />

Follow all operating and safety precautions in this manual. If these instructions are ignored, a<br />

significant danger of injury or death arises and damage to the device, system or plant may also result.<br />

Carefully read the safety instructions before installing and commissioning the device. Store the manual<br />

at an easily accessible location.<br />

DANGER!<br />

Electric shock due to high voltage in the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island. Death or serious injuries.<br />

• All work on the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island must only be carried out by electrically skilled persons.<br />

• Work on the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island should only be carried out as described in this manual.<br />

• All listed safety instructions must be observed.<br />

NOTICE!<br />

Destruction of the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island due to parallel connection of different types of<br />

tension.<br />

• Always makes sure to use the same type of <strong>Sun</strong>ny Islands in one system.<br />

• Never operate with different voltage types in parallel.<br />

Connection requirements<br />

Be sure to observe all applicable regional standards and guidelines.<br />

Internal consumption<br />

The internal consumption of the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island discharges the battery. In standby mode, this<br />

load is about 4 W and about 25 W in idle mode. Observe this when you install the <strong>Sun</strong>ny<br />

Island, but do not use it immediately or do not use it for an extended period of time within<br />

the year.<br />

It may be necessary to set the <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island to Stop mode (see section 9.3 ”Switching Off”<br />

(page 64)) and disconnect it from the battery by means of the DC circuit breaker.<br />

Installation altitude<br />

The <strong>Sun</strong>ny Island has been designed for use at elevations of up to 3000 m above sea level.<br />

Please contact SMA Solar Technology before using the device at elevations above<br />

3000 m.<br />

A performance loss of 0.5 % per 100 m is to be expected starting at an elevation of<br />

2000 m above sea level!<br />
