Katuilya has described about different valuable goods of low
price and high price under the title- Examination of Precious Articles
received in the treasury. He has praised the Nepalese woolen clothes
in the following words4- Suddham suddharaktam chavikam, khachitam vanchitam
khandasamghttyam tantuvichhinnam ch.
Kambalah kauchapakh kulmitika saumitika turagastaranam
varnakam talichhakam voravanah paristomah samntabhadrakam
chavikam. Pichhilamardramiva ch sukshamam mridum ch
shreshtham.

Woolen cloth is white, all red and part red, with threads laid in
with the needle variegated in weaving with pieces joined together and
with broke off threads. The blanket, the Kauchalaka, the kalaminika,
the sautnitika, the horses saddle cloth, the colored blanket, the tallichka,
the armour, the paristroma nad samantabhadra are (varietes of) woolen
clothes. Slippery and wet as it were fine and soft is best. After describing
various brands and designs Kautilya says, the black bhingisi, made ourt
of collection of eight woven strands (and) the apasaraka, which keeps
off rain,- that is (woolen cloth) from Nepal. (ibid, 2.11.97-100)

Nepalese Places
The Brihaspati-sutra mentions various geographical places
and their distances. It seems that these places were famous for religious
tourism in ancient period. Geographical names cited in Brihaspati sutra
are Himvanta, Salgram, Shaiva, Shivakshetra. Kirata region also has
been written there. Perhaps it indicates Kirata kingdom in Kathmandu
Valley. The description is as follows-
