1. Defi nitions<br />
1.1. Unless the contrary intention appears, the following words have these meanings in<br />
this <strong>agreement</strong>:<br />
authentication means the process whereby the identity of a cardholder is authenticated by<br />
that cardholder supplying a password in the context of an electronic commerce transaction<br />
‘Authenticate’, ‘authenticated’ and ‘authenticating’ have similar meanings.<br />
authorisation means, in respect of a transaction, our confi rmation that at the time at which<br />
authorisation is given the card number exists and is valid, the card has not been reported<br />
lost or stolen at the time of the sales transaction and that there are suffi cient funds available<br />
in the account being accessed to cover that transaction.<br />
banking day means a day on which we are open for general banking business in Melbourne<br />
Australia except for Saturdays, Sundays and National Public Holidays.<br />
bureau means a third party used by you to transmit information between NAB and you on<br />
your behalf, and includes any payment gateway used by you.<br />
card schemes means:<br />
(a) for the purposes of any transaction conducted online Visa and MasterCard; or<br />
(b) for the remainder of this <strong>agreement</strong>, Visa, MasterCard, EPAL and China UnionPay.<br />
card scheme rules means the rules and regulations which regulate participants in the<br />
card schemes.<br />
cardholder means:<br />
(a) for the purposes of clauses 5.6 to 5.8 (inclusive) and any other clauses relating to the<br />
authentication procedures, the person in whose name the credit or scheme debit<br />
card (as defi ned for the same purposes), has been issued;<br />
(b) for the remainder of this <strong>agreement</strong>, the person in whose name the nominated card<br />
has been issued.<br />
certifi ed means that we have notifi ed you in writing that you have the systems capability to<br />
participate in the authentication procedures.<br />
chargeback means a debit entry to your account to reverse a credit previously made to your<br />
account in the circumstances described in clause 9.<br />
chip card means a plastic card containing a computer chip that adheres to the EMV<br />
standards.<br />
commercial card means a card which the card schemes recognise as being issued for<br />
predominantly business or commercial purposes.
