** Overhead electrification lines are sur veyed periodically by means of train-mounted measuring equipment.This demonstrates that the number of exceedances from Railtrack standards
reduced by more than 20% in 1998 compared with 1997.Effective maintenance of targeted renewals are expected to lead to further improvements in future years.

renewals and effective maintenance, this improving trend is expected to continue in future years.
