upwards to the flux storage floor of the building. The lances<br />

enter the top opening of each furnace through a collar protected<br />

opening on each fume hood.<br />

4. Batching Floor: The 86'-0" wide x 225'-0" long batching<br />

floor is located on a steel framed platform 2 0'-3" directly above<br />

the service floor.<br />

a. Weigh Hoppers: Located in the middle of the floor<br />

and laid out linearly on a north-south axis are six weigh hoppers<br />

hanging from the weighing floor. They are composed of two 100<br />

cu. ft. capacity spar hoppers, two 100 cu. ft. capacity ore<br />

hoppers, and two 600 cu. ft. capacity lime hoppers. Attached to<br />

the bottom of each hopper is a Carrier feeder conveyor.<br />

b. Scales: Six Rex scales are located directly<br />

opposite their respective weigh hoppers on the western side of<br />

the floor.<br />

c. Main Flux Conveyor Belt: A 30" wide x 95 '-0 M long,<br />

268 ton per hour reversible conveyor belt powered by a 7.5 hp<br />

motor is located directly below the feeder conveyors attached to<br />

the bottom of each weigh hopper. Laid out on a north-south axis,<br />

the main conveyor belt delivers the raw material batches to one<br />

of two cross conveyors.<br />

d. Cross Conveyor Belt: A 30" wide x 15 f -0" long<br />

conveyor belt, running in a easterly direction, is located at the<br />

north end of the main conveyor belt. The conveyor is powered by<br />

a 5 hp motor. The raw material batches drop onto the cross<br />

conveyors from the main belt and are delivered to the top opening<br />

of the batching hoppers.<br />

5. Weighing Floor: Located 14'-6" directly above the<br />

batching floor, the 86'-0" wide x 225'-0" long weighing floor is<br />

made up of a steel framed platform.<br />

a. Storage bins: Laid out on a north-south axis, seven<br />

storage bins are suspended from the flux storage floor. Two 2750<br />

cu. ft. capacity lime bins, two 1890 cu. ft. capacity spar bins,<br />

and two 1800 cu. ft. capacity ore bins are located directly above<br />

their respective weigh hoppers on the floor below. A 1750 cu.<br />

ft. capacity coke storage bin is located at the southern end of<br />

the line. Each of the lime, spar, and ore bins has a Carrier<br />

feeder conveyor attached to its bottom opening. The conveyors<br />

drop their contents into a chute which leads to the top openings<br />

of the weigh hoppers below.<br />
