6. Laid out linearly from north to south, the seven chamber<br />

roller type unit operated on 209 kilowatts and was used to harden<br />

and temper bars up to 25' long from 3/8" to 8 1/4" in diameter.<br />

The entire installation is 3 66' long. It consists of a motor<br />

powered entry table; a preheating, intermediate, and high<br />

temperature heating furnace, each 29' long x 4 , -6" wide x 7'-3"<br />

high; a 29' long x 4'-6" wide x 10' deep oil or water quench tank<br />

serviced by a quench table suspended from the quench drive<br />

platform by means of cable, pulley, and drum arrangements; a 29*<br />

long x 5'-6" wide x 7'-3" high strain relief furnace; a transfer<br />

table and cradle; a preheating, intermediate, and high<br />

temperature tempering furnace, each 29' long x 5 f -6" wide x 7'-3"<br />

high; and a motor powered run-out table with cradle.<br />

Installation date: 1943.<br />

D. Car Bottom Furnace No. 2: Manufactured by the Gas<br />

Machinery Company of America, this furnace is located about 20'<br />

west of the Continuous Electric Heat Treating Line. It is of the<br />

same approximate dimensions and serves the same purpose as Car<br />

Bottom Furnace No. 6.<br />

Installation date: 1943.<br />

E. Car Bottom Furnace No. 3: Located about 20' west of Car<br />

Bottom Furnace No. 2, this furnace was built by the same<br />

manufacturer to the same approximate dimensions and for the same<br />

purpose as Car Bottom Furnace No. 6.<br />

Installation date: 1943.<br />

F. Car Bottom Furnace No. 4: Located about 40' west of Car<br />

Bottom Furnace No. 3, this furnace fits the general description<br />

of Car Bottom Furnace No. 1.<br />

Installation date: 1943.<br />

G. Car Bottom Furnace No. 5: Located approximately 10' west<br />

of Car Bottom Furnace No. 4, this furnace fits the general<br />

description of Car Bottom Furnace No. 1.<br />

Installation date: 1943.<br />

H. Continuous Gas-Fired Heat Treating Line: Manufactured by<br />

Salem Brosius Inc., the Continuous Gas-Fired Heat Treating Line<br />

is located approximately 15* west of Car Bottom Furnace No. 5.<br />

Laid out linearly from north to south, the four chamber roller<br />

type furnaces were used to harden and temper bars up to 9 * in<br />

diameter and 40' long. The line consists of a motor powered<br />

entry table, a 47*-10" long x 10*-5" wide x 8' high heating<br />

furnace; a holding furnace of the same dimensions as above; a<br />

46*-6" long x 12'-3" wide x 14'-2" deep water quench tank<br />

serviced by a quench table suspended from the quench drive<br />

platform by means of cable, pulley, and drum arrangements; a
