5. Platforms and Stairs: Accessibility to the equipment at<br />

the top of the furnace is provided by steel framed stairways and<br />

1/4" thick steel platforms.<br />

II. Remains of Blast Furnace Number Two:<br />

A. Stockhouse:<br />

1. Stockhouse Building: See I - A - 1 for description.<br />

2. Orer Manganese, and Flux Scale Car: The ore, manganese,<br />

and flux scale car, manufactured by the Atlas Car Manufacturing<br />

Company of Cleveland, Ohio, ran along the western side of the<br />

stockhouse where it was powered by an electric rail attached to<br />

the western wall. The car, which delivered iron ore, manganese,<br />

limestone, and dolomite from the stockhouse bin system to the<br />

hoist bucket serving blast furnace number 2, is equipped with two<br />

pneumatically operated weigh hoppers. One hopper has a capacity<br />

of 32,000 lbs., the other 24,000 lbs. At the southern end of the<br />

car is an pneumatically operated dumping system composed of a 7.5<br />

hp Alliance D.C. motor running at 1750 rpm, connected to a small<br />

Airtez air compressor and air receiver.<br />

3. Ore, Manganese, and Flux Bins: See I - A - 3 for<br />

description.<br />

Construction Date: 19 24.<br />

4. Coke Bin: The coke bin for blast furnace number 2 is<br />

constructed and arranged in the same manner as the coke bin for<br />

blast furnace number 1 except that the motors which power the<br />

vibrating screens have been taken out.<br />

Construction Date: 1924.<br />

5. Hoist Bucket Pit: The centerline of the hoist bucket pit<br />

for blast furnace number 2 is located 31'-6" from the eastern<br />

wall of the stockhouse, and 293'-0" from the centerline of the<br />

hoist bucket pit for blast furnace number 1. Constructed of<br />

concrete, it is 13'-0" wide x 26*-4 1/2" long x 18'-2 1/2" deep.<br />

Construction Date: 1924.<br />

6. Coke Breeze Feeder Conveyor: The coke breeze feeder<br />

conveyors for blast furnace number 2 were of the same type and<br />

construction as the feeder conveyors at blast furnace number 1.
