high balcony running along the eastern wall of the hoist house<br />

building are two stocKline test motor and winch drum assemblies.<br />

On the balcony's north side is a 2 hp, 8 amp, 230 volt Reliance<br />

D.C. motor which operates at 1200 rpm. It is connected to a l 1 -<br />

0" diameter winch drum attached to a Jones-Herringbone speed<br />

governor. The speed governor, manufactured by Hewitt-Robins, has<br />

specs of 4.26 hp and 1200 rpm. The arrangement of the stockline<br />

test rod motor and winch drum assembly on the balcony's south<br />

side is the same as noted above with the exception of the motor.<br />

It is a 2 hp, 8 amp, 250 volt Reliance Model "T" heavy D.C. motor<br />

which operates at 1200 rpm. The steel cable which is wound<br />

around both winch drums is approximately 1/4" in diameter.<br />

Installation Date: 1930.<br />

6. Electric Hoist: A 10-ton Sheppard service crane equipped<br />

with a "C" hook is suspended from a monorail located 15*-7 1/2"<br />

from the hoist house floor, which extends along the centerline<br />

between the two skip incline motors.<br />

Installation Date: 1924.<br />

7. Counterweight Hoist Tower: Located on a platform just<br />

south of the hoist house is the counterweight hoist tower which<br />

extends upwards from the stockhouse. See item number I - A - 12<br />

for description.<br />

C. Furnace Top:<br />

1. Large Bell Hopper: The hopper which sits above the large<br />

bell at the top of the furnace is 8'-0" high with a top inside<br />

diameter of 15 ! -5 1/2", tapering to a bottom inside diameter of<br />

13'-0". The flange surrounding the top of the hopper is 6 1/4"<br />

wide. Installation Date: 1968.<br />

2. Gas Seal Hopper and Seal: The gas seal hopper is<br />

approximately 4*-0" high. Its bottom flange sits on top of the<br />

large bell hopper top flange. The bottom inside diameter of the<br />

hopper is 15*-5 1/2" and its top inside diameter is 4'-l". The<br />

top diameter including the flange is 6'-3". Inside of the top<br />

inside diameter of the hopper is a hard rubber bell shaped gas<br />

seal approximately 18" high.<br />

Design Date: 1896.<br />

3. Large Bell: The large bell has a diameter of 14 , -0" and<br />

is 9'-5" high. It is attached by a 6 1/4" shaft to a steam<br />

operated lever arm which lowers and raises it.<br />

Construction Date: 1966.<br />

4. Steam Cylinder: Located on the top of the furnace
