I. Blast Furnace Number One:<br />

A. Stockhouse:<br />

DESCRIPTION<br />

1. Stockhouse Building: The stockhouse building, laid out<br />

on a north-south axis, is constructed of rough—faced ashlar and<br />

is 77'-0" wide x 1456'-0" long x 40'-0" high. The trestle's<br />

steel platform forms the roof of the building which is supported<br />

by a cross-braced steel column frame.<br />

Construction Date: 1896.<br />

2. Ore and Flux Scale Car: The scale car ran along the<br />

western side of the stockhouse while being powered by an<br />

electrical rail which is attached to the western wall. The car<br />

is equipped with two pneumatically operated weigh hoppers. One<br />

hopper has a capacity of 32,000 lbs., the other 24,000 lbs. The<br />

motor, air compressor, and air receiver arrangement which<br />

operates the weigh hopper dumping system is unidentifiable.<br />

Installation Date: 1924.<br />

3. Ore and Flux Bins: The "Baker" suspension type ore and<br />

flux bins are hung from the steel framework of the trestle over<br />

the western, or ore yard wall of the stockhouse. Their bottom<br />

openings are arranged along the western wall of the stockhouse<br />

for blast furnaces 1, 2, 3, and 4 above the scale car. Their<br />

capacities are unknown at this time.<br />

Construction Date: 1924.<br />

4. Coke Bin: A 14-ton double coke bin, constructed by the<br />

American Bridge Company, spans the hoist bucket pit and has<br />

openings on the north and south side of the pit. The bins are<br />

hung from the steel framework of the trestle underneath the coke<br />

track. Attached to each bottom opening of the bin is a weigh<br />

hopper. The dumping system, which is attached to each weigh<br />

hopper bottom opening, is composed of a inclined Vibrolator<br />

vibrating coke screen and a chute leading to the hoist bucket at<br />

the bottom of the pit. A 2 hp motor attached to the top of the
