4.0 THON EVENTS<br />

4.1. Hershey Trips<br />

<strong>2013</strong> Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon<br />

4.1.1. Each year, Penn State Children’s Hospital offers tours to all students involved in<br />

THON. These tours provide a valuable opportunity for Penn State students to<br />

comprehend the true spirit of THON and observe first-hand the significance of their<br />

yearlong efforts. While on the tour, students will see the hospital’s in-patient and<br />

out-patient oncology units, meet a child life specialist, a music therapist, a<br />

nutritionist, a psychologist, and a social worker, tour the Four Diamonds Pediatric<br />

Research Institute, and usually have the opportunity to meet a Four Diamonds<br />

family – the real heart and soul of THON.<br />

4.1.2. The tours start promptly at 11:00am and end around 3:00pm. Students should<br />

plan to arrive at Hershey by 10:45am at the absolute latest. Each visitor on the tour<br />

receives a complimentary meal ticket worth $8.00 for the hospital’s cafeteria.<br />

Parking is free. Students must arrange with professors in advance if they will be<br />

missing class. Excuse notes will not be provided.<br />

4.1.3. Students are representing THON and should dress appropriately. They are to<br />

wear their organization’s THON T-shirt, sweatshirt or other THON apparel with<br />

Khaki pants and closed toed shoes. No sweatpants, sleeveless shirts, jeans,<br />

shorts, or short skirts, tennis shoes, or sandals are to be worn.<br />

4.1.4. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the<br />

Hospital. It is approximately a two-hour trip from State College. Directions to<br />

Hershey can be found on the THON website.<br />

4.1.4.1. Upon arrival at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, follow the green<br />

signage for Parking Lot G and the University Physicians Center. Enter via the<br />

main lobby of the University Physicians Center. A Four Diamonds<br />

Representative will be there to meet you. Please call the Four Diamonds<br />

office at 717-531-6086 if you have any questions.<br />

4.1.4.1.1. NOTE: THIS INFORMATION WILL CHANGE WHEN THE NEW<br />

CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL BUILDING OPENS IN DECEMBER 2012. AN<br />

UPDATE WILL BE PROVIDED.<br />

4.1.5. RULES FOR HERSHEY TRIPS<br />

4.1.5.1. Any organization may apply for a reservation to visit the Penn State<br />

Children’s Hospital.<br />

4.1.5.2. Your organization must have at least eight (8) people and no more than<br />

twelve (12) people in order to reserve a spot. In addition, a tour can be made<br />
