Director’s
Message
Dear HMS graduates,
It gives me great pleasure as the new
director of HMS to launch this inaugural
web-based yearbook titled “Exclusively
HMS”. How time flies and it must seem like
only yesterday when you were freshmen
stepping into Ngee Ann Polytechnic, eagerly
looking forward to new experiences. In
the blink of an eye, you have completed
your course and will be embarking
either on your career or further studies.
As you look back on your three years in HMS,
I am sure there will be a treasure trove of
memories, some of which will be captured
in this yearbook. Whether it is working on
a project, attending off-campus classes,
going on an overseas study trip, doing your
practicum or internship; what makes the
three years in HMS memorable must surely
be the people who were with you every step
of the journey. These people may be your
classmates who shared the fun of discovery
with you as you experienced the course or
they may be your lecturers or supervisors
who patiently guided you along the way.

So as you go forth onto the next phase of
your journey, I urge you not to forget the ties
you have forged, but to continue to build on
these ties. To help all of you stay connected
as one HMS family, we will be launching
the HMS alumni Facebook soon, so look
out for it and remember to like the page!
Enjoy the walk down memory lane as you
go through this e-yearbook and I hope you
will see the HMS ethos of thinking people
and impacting lives reflected in the

Foreword
HMS Alumni was set up in May 2012 to cultivate
goodwill and a sense of pride towards HMS and
NP.
A resource panel was formed shortly after the
setting up of the Alumni, 10 HMS graduates
stepped forward and committed to serve.
The HMS Alumni team is truly excited to witness
the launch of the inaugural e-yearbook. Current
HMS students and staff came together and
worked really hard over the last 8 months to
make this possible. Going through the pages
will certainly bring back the highlights of the
days at HMS. At the HMS graduation party “The
Masquerade”, HMS graduates can celebrate
friendships before they embark on a new
journey. HMS Alumni is coming up with an
exciting program lineup for our graduates. We
hope every graduate can continue to share their
life journey with us and play an active role in the
HMS family.
Together, the HMS family can make a difference
to our community and the world.

Equipped with the right mix of skills to achieve
business and social objectives,
our graduates have what it takes to run a
business, and at the same time, make lives
better for the others.
With business fundamentals in areas
like enterprise creation and development,
project management and more, our
graduates can help non-profit organisations
set up businesses, execute local and overseas
projects, and learn how companies create
social value through their Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
As potential social business entrepreneurs, our
BSZE graduates are confident and motivated
to succeed in their business and life.

IMMERSED IN CULTURE
ABSORBED IN HISTORY
There’s no doubt about it - China is where the
action is these days.
CHS is the first and only diploma course in
Singapore which trains its students to
become education and business professionals
who are proficient in the Chinese Language.
Upon the completion of 3 years of studies,
our graduates would have acquired a solid
grounding in areas such as Chinese history,
literature, popular culture and communication.
They are also trained in practical skills such as
translation and media production.
With their language proficiency and overseas
exposure, our graduates have a competitive
advantage when they work in local firms with
China dealings or multinational companies.

BRIDGE TWO LANGUAGES
OPEN DOORS TO DREAMS
With China’s rising prominence, there is also
increasing international demand for Chinese
media content. As a bilingual media
practitioner, our graduates are well-equipped
with creative skills in copywriting, advertising,
video production, and web design.
Besides media training, our graduates also
possess a strong foundation in Chinese
language via modules in Chinese history,
culture, and translation.
In the globalising 21st Century, it is not enough
to comprehend just one language.
CMC is a unique course conducted in
both English and Chinese. Such bilingual
media training opens doors to wide career
opportunities.

EMPOWERING LITTLE MINDS
CREATING BRIGHT FUTURE
Our CPEE graduates have gained a firm
foundation in the learning and
developmental psychology of young
children. At the same time, they acquire
teaching techniques to design an early
childhood curriculum.
In their third year, graduates who are
passionate in teaching children with
special needs took the Early Intervention
(Special Needs) track; they learnt about
identifying and supporting young children
with special needs in an inclusive or special
education setting.
In the Writing and Publishing track,
graduates are equipped with the
knowledge to be content producers
of children’s literature and literacy
programmes.

Our graduates have what it takes to shape and
guide young learners.
In these three years of their learning journey,
our graduates have learnt about play in the
early years, curriculum design and assessment,
child health and nutrition and the holistic
development of young children. In addition to
teaching skills., they are equipped with
management and leadership skills.
With enriching weekly attachments at childcare
centres under the supervision of
experienced teachers, our graduates are
ready to guide the young and do their part in
shaping the future.

PROBING INTO PERSONALITIES
REACHING OUT TO HUMANITY
Over the past three years, our PCS
graduates have built a strong foundation in
the study of psychology, providing them a
head-start in pursuing further studies in the
intriguing field of psychology. They are also
equipped with highly practical and relevant
skills. These graduates have conducted
research, facilitated group sessions, planning
and implementing programmes.
In their first year, theyworked on
research projects with industry partners; and
went on a study trip to Cambodia during
their second year. They spent their final year
either interning at government
agencies, hospitals and Voluntary Welfare
Organisations, or doing their final-year
internship with project.
