The Annual Report is published yearly by the Development Office of Saint Louis School. Every effort is made to ensure that it is accurate and complete for the fiscal year 2009-2010. If you note errors or omissions, please accept our sincere apology and contact us so we can make appropriate corrections. The fiscal year covered in this report is from July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010. Gifts received after June 30, 2010 will be acknowledged in the 2010-2011 Annual Report produced annually in January. Gifts from individuals are listed by gift clubs and if applicable, by class listing and special events. This year, Saint Louis School acknowledges with gratitude those committed donors who have given to the school over consecutive years. WAYS OF GIVING A donor can make a restricted donation to a specific area of interest or an unrestricted charitable contribution to Saint Louis School in various ways: Annual Fund, Endowed Gifts and the Capital Campaign. Gifts can be planned to express the donor’s individual interests and to accommodate his or her tax situation. ANNUAL FUND Gifts received through the Annual Fund are raised from parents, alumni, friends, foundations, and corporations and are utilized to meet current operating expenses. These important annual contributions help to fund academic programs, student financial aid, athletics, student clubs and organizations, and building and ground maintenance. The Annual Fund helps make up the difference between tuition and the actual cost of operation. ENDOWMENT GIFTS Endowment gifts are placed in a permanent fund that allows only earned income to be spent. The larger the corpus of the endowment, the more income will be realized by Saint Louis School. MATCHING GIFTS Participating companies match contributions given to Saint Louis School by their employees or retirees. The company matches gifts after the donor sends his or her donation along with the company’s matching gift form. These forms can be obtained from the human resources offices of companies that offer matching gifts. PLANNED/DEFFERED GIFTS Planned or deferred gifts are long-term methods of supporting the school in which gifts used by Saint Louis School is postponed until a specified future date. An example of a planned gift would be naming the school as a beneficiary in one’s will. This serves to reduce the size of the taxable portion of an estate and may lower federal estate tax liability. Through a charitable gift annuity, a donor may contribute cash, appreciated stock or real estate. This annuity will provide you with a guaranteed income for life, reduce the size of your taxable estate, as well as other tax savings, while at the same time benefiting Saint Louis School. Other forms of planned giving opportunities include various trusts, life insurance policies, and transfers of residence and personal property. Dear Friends of Saint Louis School, Thanks to your generous support, with hearts filled with gratitude we celebrate another successful year in the renowned story of Saint Louis School, THE school of opportunity! Your gifts allow us to continue to advance through growth opportunities vital in providing our students with a state-of-the-art learning environment. In retrospect, the past year contains a number of milestones in the legacy of over 165 years serving the young men of Hawaii: In February, we welcomed Principal Patricia Hamamoto, former Superintendent of the State of Hawai‘i Department of Education, to our administrative team. Under Ms. Hamamoto’s stewardship, we have made greater strides toward academic excellence while remaining faithful to our commitment to develop gentlemen of character in reaching their individual potential through the Catholic Marianist tradition. Our mathematics team continues its hold on the first place ranking it earned at the 2010 Hawai‘i Math Bowl Competition; we continue to place among the top tier in video production and JROTC challenges; our varsity football team brought back the state championship. These are just a few examples of the accomplishments in various areas of the scholastic spectrum that serve as affirmation of one component of our mission: the education of the whole person. The accolades provide a snapshot of the greater story: the day-to-day activities and time-honored adherence to upholding the rich heritage and tradition of Saint Louis School under the collaborative guidance and mentorship of dedicated educators, coaches, alumni, parents and volunteers. We know that many of you contributed to the completion of the Clarence T. C. Ching Learning & Technology Center, and we are very grateful for your generosity.
