Keep<strong>in</strong>g the schedule<br />

smoothly<br />

The works started <strong>in</strong> January 2004<br />

with the assembly of the gantry.<br />

Erecti<strong>on</strong> works started early March<br />

2004 and where substantially<br />

complete by June. To enable<br />

assembly and launch<strong>in</strong>g of the<br />

girder for the bridge erecti<strong>on</strong>,<br />

completi<strong>on</strong> of the South abutment<br />

was critical to the programme,<br />

as the approach ramp was used<br />

as a support platform for girder<br />

assembly and launch<strong>in</strong>g. Follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

launch<strong>in</strong>g of the girder, f<strong>in</strong>al<br />

<strong>in</strong>stallati<strong>on</strong> of wall panels, cop<strong>in</strong>gs<br />

and bank seat thrust relief walls<br />

where completed. In additi<strong>on</strong> to the<br />

c<strong>on</strong>crete faced walls, VSL supplied<br />

and <strong>in</strong>stalled a number of VSoL ®<br />

mesh faced walls as temporary<br />

works, as a quick and cost effective<br />

way of allow<strong>in</strong>g adjacent activities<br />

to c<strong>on</strong>t<strong>in</strong>ue as the permanent walls<br />

were built.The erecti<strong>on</strong> work over<br />

the Airport Express and MTR l<strong>in</strong>es<br />

were executed without any<br />

disrupti<strong>on</strong> to either traffic<br />

or equipment from MTRC.<br />
