7. The degree certificate is signed by the Dean and the appropriate Director of
Studies.
8. An LUC supplemental certificate, showing the major and minor, and an academic
transcript, showing the student’s progress, are issued with the degree
certificate as separate documents.
9. The degree certificate is awarded in public unless the Examinations
Committee decides otherwise.
10. Graduation will take place once per academic year on a date set by the
Examinations Committee.
ART. 1.11 - LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
The normal language of instruction and examination in the programme is
English; courses with strong elements of language acquisition may be exempt
from this rule.
Paragraph 2 - admissions
ART. 2.1 - BOARD OF ADMISSIONS
The Dean of LUC appoints a Board of Admissions, which is responsible for the
admissions procedure and communication of admissions decisions.
ART. 2.2 - ELIGIBILITY
In order to be eligible for admission, a prospective student needs a VWO diploma
or an equivalent thereof, excellent English, good mathematical skills, affinity
for an international environment, and commitment to the ideals and values of
LUC.
ART. 2.3 - LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Since English is the working language at LUC, non-native speakers are required
to demonstrate proof of proficiency.

ART. 2.4 - COMPENSATION FOR DEFICIENCIES
eNglish Dutch VWO, or have taken a TOEFL-test with the following minimum scores.
Paper-based test: an overall score of 600. Computer-based test: 237.
Internetbased: 100. IETLS test with an overall score of 7.0 (at least 7.0 in each of
the four components). Certificate of Proficiency in English (grade C). Certificate
in Advanced English (grade A). European Baccalaureate (70% for English).
International Baccalaureate (grade 5 for Standard English).
mathematics A mathematics test at LUC The Hague, at the discretion of the Board of
Admissions.
The Examinations Committee shall determine the way in which these tests will
be organised. The tests must be passed before the student is formally enrolled
at LUC.
ART. 2.5 - ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE
1. Prospective students are required to complete an application form, and
compose a personal statement and an essay. They should also submit a letter
of recommendation from a teacher, career counselor or principal who knows
the student well.
2. Through the application form academic performance, among other things,
is assessed.
3. The Board of Admissions reviews all complete application files and decides
whether a student will be invited for interview.
4. The evaluation of the interview and the personal statement aim at assessing
the academic readiness of a prospective student and his/her motivation for
study at LUC.
5. After the interview the Dean takes advice from the Board of Admissions,
which makes an overall assessment of the file of each student, and decides
whether or not to invite a student to LUC.
6. An invitation can be conditional upon students meeting LUC’s eligibility
criteria.
