Using Notes as an OLE 2 Automation Client: Managing<br />

Objects<br />

This chapter describes how to edit and update an embedded or linked<br />

object in a Notes document manually and using <strong>LotusScript</strong>.<br />

You can do the following in a Notes document that contains an OLE object:<br />

Edit an embedded object. You can edit an embedded OLE object’s data<br />

by launching the object’s server application from Notes. You can edit an<br />

embedded OLE 2 object’s data “in-place” by using the server<br />

application’s commands directly in Notes.<br />

Edit a linked object. You can edit a linked object’s data by launching the<br />

object’s server application from Notes.<br />

Editing an Embedded Object<br />

The following describes how to edit an embedded object manually.<br />

Creating a View<br />

In our example here, be<strong>for</strong>e you edit Notes documents that contain<br />

embedded or linked objects, you first create a view in Notes to make it<br />

easier to access each document.<br />

Follow these steps to create a view in Notes:<br />

1. Open the OLE 2 database.<br />

2. On the navigator pane, click Design, then Views, and then double-click<br />

on the *(untitled) view. The View design window displays.<br />

3. Choose Design - View Properties from the menu bar and type Access<br />

OLE 2 in the Name box.<br />

Tip You can also click the Design View Properties SmartIcon.<br />

4. Click the Options tab and select the Show in View menu check box.<br />

5. Double-click on the “#” column title.<br />

6. Type Object Category in the Title box; this is the title of your first<br />

column.<br />
